My background is the classic "frustrated guitarist turned bassist" story! I dabbled with guitar for around 10 years, but switched to bass a few years ago and never looked back. Can't beat standing in front of a TC Electronic stack and feeling the bass slam you in the back :)
I also really enjoy sound engineering and live sound - I have a full PA system and lights (with public liability insurance), so if you want someone to come and run sound at a gig, just give me a shout! I have uploaded some of my tracks to this profile so you can get an idea of some of the sound engineering work I've done with one of my previous bands.
My main focus is really playing in covers bands, but I have also dabbled in writing original material and it would be nice to be able to bounce a few ideas off someone. Maybe knock my ideas into some sort of coherent songs!

You hum it, I'll play it! I love all kinds of music, from classic rock (Stones, Floyd, Led Zep, etc.), modern rock and 90's alternative, all the way through to death metal and industrial and out on the other side to trance and electronic music.
Although I have written and recorded my own trance & metal-based music (See my tracks "The River" and "The Pleiades" for some of the more out-there stuff I'm into), I'm mainly into playing classic rock/metal and modern "alternative" stuff. See my band's cover of "Word Up" and "Fire Woman" (video and tracks links should show up on this page and in the audio player at the top) for an idea of my more traditional rock playing.
The bands I've been in have played the usual covers stuff - from slightly "heavier" things to 90's alternative, 60s and 70s classics and so on. I would love to meet up with other musicians to chat, talk shop (especially sound engineering, rackmount toys and that sort of stuff) and maybe have a jam or gig with.

Above The Sky
Above The SkyMy latest track, inspired by a 40th birthday trip watching the sunset above the clouds at La Palma observatory. I've been working on this for months and it's probably my most personal song yet; I never thought things would turn out the way they have, but life has a funny way of showing you where you need to be. This song is again dedicated to my wife Jaleh, for making everything possible and for always making me feel like I'm Above The Sky.
FlashbackA rock / metal cover of an old song for the Amiga computer from my childhood! Music video also available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6AA_9pRFTg . The original was called "Jobba" and was written by Pex "Mahoney" Tufvesson (an absolute legend in the Amiga scene, and his "Noisetracker" program kick-started my interest in computer-based music). The original can be seen in the "Sounds Of Gnome" demo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdRB_mUKeBA at around 45:30 minutes in. I used to love this track and even made a mixtape back in the day with this on it, so it seemed only fitting to give it the MDR metal treatment as a tribute :)
The RiverMy latest instrumental rock/metal/electronic track - a journey through a river and out to the freedom of the sea. Inspired by a dream I had some time ago, and has taken me somewhere in the region of 5 years to gradually put all the pieces together, and find the time to sit down and record it all properly!
The PleiadesElectronic / trance with live bass and guitar. Featuring an epic flute solo from my awesome sister, Spinney Lainey :) This tune is dedicated to Lainey for her inspiration, and to my wife Jaleh for being so patient while I constantly re-worked this, and for making all the good things happen!
