Hi there! My name is Joe. My description might sound similar to a lot of other people's on this site, but bear with me. I've been playing guitar for nearly over 10 years now, and what began as a hobby and something to do when I started secondary school turned into the thing that I’m now building a career on.
In the years since I started I’ve branched into multiple genres, and learnt how to play new instruments. I've been a part of nearly a dozen bands, including one that was signed to a local record label. I've since graduated my Creative Music Technology course with a first class honours, and I’m keen to get back out in the world to put my skills to good use.
I enjoy playing anything from Blues to Folk, and Funk to Rock, or even just meeting up for jam and seeing what evolves from it. Truth be told I'm just happy as long as I have an instrument in my hand. When I'm writing my own stuff I make ambient music and experiment with the use of space and reverb in my compositions. This experimentation has fed into the way I play live and with bands, allowing me to put the large collection of guitar pedals and effects I've accumulated over the years to good use.
I’m not naive. I'm aware of the kind of industry I’ve entered into and I understand that expecting to get a solid job as a musician is wishful thinking. But I also know that I've put too much effort into all this to just let it all go to waste. So even if it means bringing it all back to being a hobby again, it will be worth it. ...at least at first anyway.
If you or someone you know has need of a musician that can play guitar and bass in a wide range of genres, get in contact. I'm a fun and useful person to have in a band (or on your studio album), and I love meeting new people. And I love making music with them even more.
Hope that covers everything. I'm terrible with these kinds of things.

- Other effects include those created on my computer using programs such as MAX MSP and Ableton Live. These effects use techniques such as granular synthesis, and sonic manipulation to create real time ambient soundscapes with guitar lines played live. An example can be found on my Soundcloud in the track 'Tint'.
BorealisThis track was made as an accompaniment to a piece of video art. The piece, (which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3V4S5fjEsQ ), features over 100,000 particles all moving separately around a single point. The aim was to model the piece off of Thomas Wilfred's Clavilux performances, and the look and feel of the aurora borealis. Hence the name. The track was made entirely using audio from an electric guitar.
AuroraThis is a granulated remix of a track called 'Borealis' that i have yet to upload to SoundCloud, but was one half of an audio-visual composition that can be found on my website. Aurora was created by loading 'Borealis' into Robert Henke's Granulator plug-in for Ableton Live. The track was then composed via real time control of the plug-ins parameters.
Bloom - Electroacoustic Remix
Bloom - Electroacoustic RemixThis started as a recording of a composition I made for my FYP presentation at Gradex 2016. It was recorded on my ZOOM H1, and the intention was to capture how the acoustics of the room affected the track being played over the speakers. However I had forgotten to turn the recorder off while I was presenting my FYP to visitors, and as such picked up voices along with the backing track. I really liked how the voices could only just be heard over the track, and added an extra compositional element to the piece. I then spent some time editing and manipulating the audio, and ended up with a very Electroacoustic inspired composition. This is an area that I really enjoy composing within, and is one that I will explore further in the future.
SpielThis is a pretty rough master of a track that i recorded a year ago. It represents a style of music that i'm no longer really interested in, and was going to be part of an EP that i never finished. However i'm uploading the 3 tracks from this EP that i did get finished, so that i know it wasn't all a waste of time. The first of these tracks "Hold This Thought" was actually already uploaded a few years back, and can be listened to on my page. I may also do an improved master of it, who knows. For now, i present Spiel. Enjoy!
TintHaven't uploaded in way too long. This was the result of me playing around with a system i made last year which creates ambient soundscapes with a guitar. This was recorded with one mic using a two amp stereo setup. It was all performed on the fly, in one take, with very minimal editing and mixing done after. Its very rough in areas, as it is meant to be a test. I was however very happy with some of the weird and wonderful sounds i managed to make, so i decided to upload it. Expect more stuff like this in the future. Hopefully in the form of properly written and arranged tracks...

Hold This Thought
Hold This ThoughtHold this thought is the first track in my EP of solo work. With this track, my aim was to set a scene. I wanted to start the listener in a very normal feeling environment, such as a simple room, with nothing but a seat and a guitar. And then gradually take them out of it and into strange, warped, and alien surrounding. This theme of spaces and rooms is something i aim to work with across the whole EP.
