ABOUT

Seeing the IMMENSE popularity and high earnings of Tribute Bands, and having recently switched from Pop/Rock to Jazz, I’ve had the mad idea of setting up a ….

HERB ALPERT TRIBUTE BAND !

(“This time next year Rodney, we’ll be millionaires”)

~ ~ ~

I’m a highly experienced ex-record label Bass Player; but that’s not the thing …

Since retiring from my Head of Faculty post a few years ago, I have thoroughly enjoyed setting up and running two successful 70s pop function bands (see videos).

For each, I :-

- Found like-minded, nice-people, pickers
- Produced pro-quality studio recordings
- Edited the videos
- Got us on to page one of 3 booking-agency rosters
- Managed the marketing, agencies and bookings
- Arranged to music
- Played the bass
- Made the tea

POTENTIAL for The HERB ALBERT TRIBUTE:-

I have a friend, a tremendous rock guitarist, who for his sins joined a Spandau tribute band called So True. They’re good but nothing tremendously special. He’s not a Spandau fan. He’s a retired old git like me; but he’s now playing Theatres at £3,000 a gig!

I have no interest in the money for ‘THE HERP ALBERT TRIBUTE’ (note altered spelling) but my aim would be to have our pick and choice of some really nice bookings - playing about one gig a month.

THE VIDEOS:

I share with you here:

1. A Herb vid’ so you can be reminded of the huge potential and indeed, the fun!

2. My current project, The Lorraine Jones Quartet (which is not having the success I’d hoped. But please see the website I built for us as an indication of what I can do). The Website is easily found - just search for:
“The Lorraine Jones Quartet”

3. Below the Border (the successful 70s Rock party band I set up and ran between in 2019 and 2025).

4. Tangerine Scene (the first function band I started when I retired in 2017, which morphed into Below the Border)

5. The Cajun band I was in durung the 90s - record label signed.

6. Spellbound -1975 - I was 17 - amazing guitars!

So … NOW SEEKING for the TIJUANA TRIBUTE:-

- 2 Trumpets
- 1 Trombone
- 1 Guitar
- 1 Percussionist - Congas, Maracas, Tambourine, etc.,
- A pianist and/or Vibe Player would be nice but not essential
- Drums (albeit I may already have an outstanding jazz drummer).
- 2 1960s Go-Go dancers (maybe not?)

Life would be easier if everyone was retired but not essential.

You would need to be prepared to drive (or be driven) up to 100 miles when necessary for any high-paying bookings.

Again … that distance is not about earning top money, it’s about offering a geographical range in order to be able to pick and choose the best gigs - no more than a dozen a year.

Would love to hear from you,

~ ~ ~

BTW … Despite the obvious entrepreneurial thread to all of the above (I was a successful company owner in my 20s) I should point out I’m a socialist!
