Influences

My influences and broad and touch upon many different times in music history. My main influences comes from the psychedelic 60’s era; ‘The Grateful Dead’ are my one of my favourites and represent, in my eyes, the greatest jamming band of their time and very much a style and attitude I like to emulate. ‘Fleetwood Mac’ in their Peter Green years are of much interest too, the way that blues was infused with psychedelia created its own branch of wonder and beauty - Peter Green and Danny Kirwan are also easily my favourite guitar duo, the way they bounced off each other, especially live, was impeccable. “The Beatles” later works are of course of high interest too, the multitude of influences and genres that was compiled into the white album alone makes them one of my favourite bands of this era.

I am also massively into electric blues ranging from early roots Country blues and Chicago blues artists like Muddy Waters; Howlin Wolf; Willie Dixon; James Cotton; Freddie King; Son House, Elmore James, Blind Boy Fuller etc. I’m also largely influenced by the UK blues movement in the 60’s from artists such as John Mayall, Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix and Duster Bennett etc.

70’s music is also very present in my music influences. Although they began in the late 60’s ‘Led Zeppelin’ is probably my favourite band, the rhythm section of that band is still something my mind cannot wrap around, they were leagues above everyone else until the end of 1973 in terms of raw energy and guitar skills - simply amazing. I also take high interest in the works of ‘Frank Zappa’ in this period and his branching out into weirder and more funkier genres and projects. ‘Neil Young’ and ‘Bob Dylan’ are artists that I take keen interest in from this period, their shared ability to put any story/poem to some acoustic chords and make it sound so meaningful and emotional is something to be amazed by. “The Pink Floyd” are of course another massive influence from this time, although I do generally prefer their earlier works from Piper up too Meddle; I do have to admit that Animals and The Wall are two of my all time favourite albums, Gilmour’s bends are something out of this earth, such an emotional guitarist.

I have many many more musical interests and influences that I haven’t mentioned here as I simply would be typing forever but that covers most of the main ones :)
