ABOUT

I am a singer, guitarist (acoustic and electric) and bass player, and I also write songs. I love all sorts of music (from classical through jazz and folk to blues, reggae, pop, rock and metal), but I guess the core of my musical taste is the Heavy Rock / Progressive Rock of the 1970s.

I played in bands and solo a fair bit in my youth, but then for a long time a travel-intensive day job constrained my ability to put enough commitment into musical projects. I've put that right over the last few years, though - I'm now able to devote myself full-time to music making, and am on a mission to spend as many waking hours as possible doing just that.

Influences

I find it hard to distinguish "influences" from music I like. I like a wide range of music, but there's plenty of it that probably doesn't directly influence me - e.g. Shostakovich, Miles Davis, Bob Marley, Blondie, Kate Bush, Gong, Opeth.

So, for "influences", I should probably list artists more in the Classic/Progressive/Heavy Rock area - like the following (although the list would probably be different if I did this again on another day): Black Sabbath, Camel, Deep Purple, Free, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Rainbow, Rush, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Whitesnake, ZZ Top.
