A VERY CONDENSED MUSICAL HISTORY
I come from a musical family who had theatrical “digs”. Evening’s entertainment was singsongs around the piano. Mum played piano and her 3 brothers played guitar. First guitar ever played was a red London burns bass when I was six. Couldn’t reach the end or hold it up. Then had Spanish guitar that was pride and joy. I am left-handed so learned upside down (as did my 3 uncles) until I got my first electric guitar at 10. a right-handed telecaster copy, which I restrung. Formed “band” playing scout huts, youth clubs, and Sunday afternoon talent shows, “red river rock etc”.
I have the ability (or party trick) to be able to play guitar either way up and actually prefer playing bass and finger picking acoustic "upside down", though I am not really an acoustic guitar player.
In London mid 75/76 at start of punk scene and saw many bands before they “made it”.Jammed with some of Hawkwind and onstage at Glastonbury 7/7/77 with hippy band “Here and Now”. The stage was Pink Floyds large pyramid mixing tower from Knebworth.
Moved to Manchester 77 during thriving new punk band period. Went to Deeply Vale every year. Joined “the Bloodclots” but had to leave because I wouldn’t cut my hair! Joined local avant-garde band “No Dinosaurs” playing German type prog rock. First used early synths/sequencers. Made a living busking 5 days a week in Manchester city centre playing mostly Neil Young songs. Worked for “Drive By Night”, P.A. and Lighting Hire at college and town hall venues around Manchester and Northwest.
Moved back home to Wales. Became one half of “Kym Vincent Duo” playing country music “truck driving, outlaw type”, playing pubs, clubs during the boom of CB radio. We became hosts and resident artists of Colwyn Bay Country Music club.
Joined very popular “hard driving” blues band ”The Devils Blues Band” a pro outfit with manager/Mercedes van etc. Gigged all over for 2 ½ years. A life of total excess that took its toll.
Joined a slick showgroup “Deva”, playing large holiday camps and clubs. Entered CocaCola/Britvic “search for a star” national competition of stage/cabaret performers, reached semi final at I.C.I. Doncaster. Came top of the bands but didn’t make final. “Got ripped off for money and equipment by them!”
Children born so had break in playing for a few years.
Joined pub band “Cutting Edge” featuring veterans of the 60s Brit blues/beat scene, sponsored by Whitbread brewery as part of their “Cutting Edge” advertising promotion.
Played local pubs backing well-known local folk/country singer/songwriter Des Owen. Played many charity fund raising events for local causes. Started doing DJ -ing with a mate as Alien2,: rock nights, weddings, pubs, schools, kids parties etc. My partner did “table” magic as part of the act. Broke into the “biker” rally scene playing large events such as Celtic Warriors, Badgers Bash etc. (had 500 minidisks stolen at that one!....not by bikers!).

My “heroes” are Jimi Hendrix, Steve Hillage, the blues guys “Albert King, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, etc. I like all kinds of music I have a vast collection (`000`s) covering all genres. My all time favourite bands are the Ramones and Gong......
