SOUL/FUNK BAND PROJECT, Sheffield-based
Do you want to take it to the bridge, or hit it and quit, or just sock it to ‘em?
If so, I’m looking for:
• Bass
• Guitar
• Horns
• Keys
. . . to form a soul/funk band to play covers (for now):
• Stax and Motown
• 60s funk (eg James Brown)
• Northern/rare soul, including a few genre-benders from back in the day.
Basically, great soul and funk tunes. We’d want to be all over the 3-minute belters, but I want to see us get to stretch out and really groove on some of the tunes in the set too. What I mean here is that with some tunes we can treat the main verse/chorus as a sort of jazz-style head, ie an intro/outro, then in the middle we groove hard on the tune with solos/frontman raps and rants etc.
I’m a drummer and have a friend on board as front-man.
You need not have played this kind of music before but you need to love 60s soul/funk and be prepared to do your homework on your parts. Age unimportant. In fact a mix would be a good thing.
Let me know if you’re interested and we’ll aim to get us all in a room together.
We’d initially meet, say, weekly at a practice rooms to get a set together then look at renting our own practice space.
After a two/three months rehearsing I’d like to see us getting a couple of gigs a month; pubs to start, then functions and festivals.
If interested PM me with: what you play; any relevant chatter; mobile number; nights of the week you definitely CAN’T rehearse etc. Don’t expect this to happen next week. We’ll get it together as soon as we can. It’ll be worth it.
