ABOUT

We're an Edinburgh-based folk-pop band, temporarily entitled Jelephant, consisting of female vocalist/flute, guitarist/piano/production/voice, pianist, sax, and bassist. We play original songs (written by the singer), and folk songs in Finnish, Icelandic and Saami. Before the pandemic, we did various gigs in and around Edinburgh (including at the Festival) with an interest in performing for vulnerable audiences. Now we are back and gigging in Edinburgh and Scotland-wide gigs, an album and folk festival bills. Basic demos and rehearsal recordings available on request. We are professional standard but easy going in attitude. We are keen to gig as and when we can (once per month minimum). Our ages in the current line-up range from 20s-60s.

Influences

We play original songs, folk songs and few covers. Scottish/Nordic feel, a bit jazzy, with a modern twist. We're wholesome and cosy, not rude/debauched. We're bold, memorable melodies, not avante garde. Line up so far is: female singer/songwriter/flute/whistle, piano, guitar, sax, bass guitar and fiddle. Influences are: Joni Mitchell, Chvrches, Sigrid, Eivor Palsdottir, Cocteau Twins, Maggie Rogers, Debussy, Ellie Goulding, Icelandic folk, Kim Carnie, The Sundays, Kate Rusby, Capercaille, Aurora, The Sundays, Pentangle, Carole King, and others.

Looking for:
An advanced guitarist who can play folk, pop and ideally jazz styles.

An opportunity has open up for a dep guitarist and fiddle player to join us in Jelephant - Folk Pop Band in Edinburgh It would suit an advanced player who can play in folk-pop styles with a bit of jazz very welcome! We're looking to recruit as soon as possible (writing in Oct 2023)! They need to be able to attend rehearsals in Edinburgh on a 1-2 weekly basis and join us for evening/weekend gigs.
