ABOUT

Post-punk band looking for a guitar witch!
Looking for a noise-loving lead guitarist for Manchester-based post-punk/psych/doom/disco band ILL. Singing & shouting skills are a bonus! Must be free to attend band practices once a week (evenings or weekends) and should be able to improvise/jam to write new songs with us. xx

“Grotty, wild, weird, frenzied music… fiercely political.”
(The Guardian)

“Mancunian four-piece ILL bring a welcome female, wonky wooze to the mix.”
(Wire)

“There is an intoxicating energy about ILL. Their riveting post-punk sound pulses with wrath and defiance…a set list buzzing with kinetic force.”
(The Quietus)

Bio
ILL is a genre-evading band which believes in the power of disobedient noise. With a repertoire of precarious pop songs and frequent improvised departures, ILL revel in the right to be weird, exploring the borders between the funny and the sinister, the personal and the political, the mundane and the surreal.

Since their beginnings in Manchester in early 2012, the feminist post-punks have released a string of self-produced singles accompanied by DIY artwork and music videos. Their debut album ‘We Are ILL’ came out on Box Records in May 2018 to an enthusiastic reception by music publications including Q Magazine, The Quietus, Loud & Quiet and Drowned In Sound. Recorded over 18 months in the crumbling mills of Ancoats, Manchester ‘We Are ILL’ is a call to action, a disobedient protest in the face of passivity, wrestling with the personal and political issues of identity and gender, mental health, the disintegration of social services, capitalism and misogyny.

ILL’s live performance highlights include improvised pieces 'A Disobedient Noise’ and 'Parallel Mirrors’ performed at Manchester Art Gallery and HOME Mcr, Supernormal Festival 2015, Sounds from the Other City and Fat Out Fest (Salford), supporting “riot-goths” Jack off Jill in Manchester, supporting The Lovely Eggs on their October 2018 tour, Raw Power Festival 2016, the Quietus Festival at WORM, Rotterdam in 2016, The Great Escape 2017, supporting British Sea Power on their October 2017 tour.
