We are Mandarin Black, a psych-funk-rock three-piece eager for final touches.
Melding soul and jazz with the spirit and occasional chords of noise rock, there’s so much we want to conquer. Mainly preconceptions. There are few limits to what this band could or should be. Therefore, we’re after a keyboardist and singer who can flip genres on the fly. Two people who are vicious when they need to be, yet somewhat romantic, so attacks sting all the sharper when a second ago, you were dancing.
You must love a simple melody as much as a five-minute freakout. We play hard and dirty, but also soft, minimally and askew. Thurston Moore should make you just as excited as seeing Bobby Womack rise from the dead.
Someone in their mid-to-late 20s is preferred. We have a female vocalist in our heads, but welcome all-comers. Plus, you score points on being a pure frontperson. It’s just better that way, no?
As for the keyboardist, we’d love you to dip into bass or other instruments if you can. Some songs require keys and synths - others demand a sparser arrangement. Again, surprise us.
