Band to Join.

Tom began his journey as a musician at a young age; with both parents being musicians, Tom was able to attend rehearsals and events which provided a practical element to his learning and development. This partnered the concepts learned from formal piano tutoring, establishing a rounded introduction to musicianship.

At the age of 12, Tom gratefully obtained an alto saxophone for his birthday. Under the teachings of Rodney Smith he developed a fierce passion for the instrument. With Rodney providing a classical and jazz influence, he was able to balance Tom's interest in heavy rock and other contrasting genres; Tom quickly started to appreciate jazz for its composed recklessness. Jazz spurred Tom's curiosity on and only led to a more diverse range of musical interests. In his early teens, Tom formed an indie rock band, which provided experience in a frontman role. This, along with his enthusiasm for dramatic arts, set a foundation for his stage presence. Tom was able to direct his group to victory at a local Battle of the Bands event in Sussex, and at a similar time, had success at a separate event - a regional brass and woodwind competition (placing 3rd on alto saxophone). During the 7 years with Rodney Smith, Tom earned a number of achievements including grades 1 to 8 (earning distinction for grades 7 and 8) and a Level 4 Diploma in Jazz Saxophone, certified by the London College of Music.

Tom studied music and performing arts at Central Sussex College, followed by a year of musical performance at Northbrook College. With developed performance skills, Tom further pursued music outside of formal study. He has been part of a gratifying sax/piano duo for many years, playing prestigious venues such as The Hilton, Brighton. As well as this, Tom has played with the critically acclaimed modern soul vocalist Luke Fincher, playing for crowds of up to 40,000 people. He has also gained studio recording experience from his time with funk rock band Funkzilla, as well as from solo recording projects. Both of which have contributed positively to his overall ability as a musician.

Tom's influences include all things exciting, from obscure metal sub-genres to pop masterpieces, engaging best with the unusual. Creating new, original and interesting music is his main aspiration. Tom admires such artists as Binker Golding and Dave O'Higgins - the discovery of Dave's work encouraged Tom to make contact with him and request tuition. Consequent lessons provided Tom with great higher-level learning and inspiration.

Tom is currently working with local producers for some exciting projects, with recent focus on modern electronic music. His primary focus is still on performing, however, with current work assisting a variety of established and dynamic artists in London and the Southern England area.
