ABOUT

I've played in concert bands and orchestras. Currently I'm in a swing/big band, a 60s/70s soul band and occasionally a trad/New Orleans jazz band. I'm interested in playing but preferably not at a financial loss!

I'm used to reading but not playing from memory so that is something I'll need to work on in future. I'm fundamentally a light/soft player but I think that's good; I'm not about to play in stadiums!

Influences

The usual many. As far as playing is concerned, Jeff Hamilton and Herlin Riley, Zigaboo Modeliste, Clyde Stubblefield, Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Mel Lewis. Any style with "swing/groove/funk"; the straighter or less "interesting" it is I'm less interested. That said, I like a lot, want to play and am aware of the need to support the music.

Drumset - small or medium bass drum size. Light jazz style cymbals but could purchase heavier ones, though they're easily loud enough for small venues.

Bits of percussion like cowbells, tambourine (orchestral), triangle.

Xylophone (but might sell it!).

Roland digital piano but no "amp".
