Band to Join, Vocalist, Drums.ABOUT
hello! i'm Scott. i started making music about 5 years ago (31 now). started by learning sax, then piano, then guitar, got into a habit of trying to play any instrument i could find (my sax remains atrocious unfortunately), but have settled on ableton and electronic production as my main craft. i've never really had any music lessons and am self-taught to the extent i know anything; i've found this lends quite a different perspective towards music making than is common among trained musicians - not in a way that's better or worse, but just interestingly different, and it leads to an interesting mix. massive respect to anyone putting in the practice though, for real. i like doing stuff with loops, using samples and my own designed sounds.
i'm really keen to make music with other people, formally trained or otherwise. i was in a band a few years ago and it was the best time. as well as having fun making music with others, i really want to commit to developing the craft as a shared project, and work hard to make beautiful, original music. let's jam, experiment, and bring something incomprehensible into the world! particularly keen to work with a vocalist and a drummer. wanna get out there and gig. playing live so fun.
last note. i'm really into radically egalitarian ideas about music making (check out the Scratch Orchestra from the 60s) and sometimes run a workshop i call "music making for non-musicians", which, by following a few simple procedures, runs just as it sounds: you give people who "don't know how to make music" instruments and then the confidence to play with them. you can hear the results of one such workshop in one of the tracks below, "apocalypse/Free Palestine", the second half of which is a recording of a spontaneous composition that a bunch of people, mostly strangers, just came out with after a few rounds of the workshop. this is just to say that i'm open to a lot musically, and am not just interested in making music that sounds like my own music, or the well-defined genres of music i like (would love to make a good pop song one day tho tbh). i'm interested in what people coming together to make music can do, wherever it leads!
