ABOUT

Scott Jay: I have been in and out of Co Antrimâ??s music scene now since the early nineties. Most of my time has been a bass player in numerous thrash, rock and alternative bands. Although I started learning guitar chords on an old acoustic when I was at primary school; I chose bass guitar as my first instrument in about 92/93. Everyone needed bass players for bands then, and it was my big chance to get in a band; donâ??t think much has changed really!
I have written songs from an early age too, but only as recent as about 2006/2007 felt I really started to have anything to say, or to write anything worth recording. My decent songs seemed to come with age. I am a late developer I guess!
Since the start of the summer 2010, I have started to embark on my recent and later skill of song writing and now play round Belfast barsâ?? open mic nights.
My musical influences have become vast over many years of listening. Basically I like songs and songwriters! A good songwriter (or songwriters) is a good songwriter(s), no matter what musical genre they are in. My parents' record collection was my first musical influence. This included 60's soul/motown 45's, The Beatles, The Stones, David Bowie, Roxy Music and Blue Beat/reggae 45's. When I reached my pre teen and teens thrash metal was happening, and I became influenced by this exciting fast rock n roll that felt my own generation's music, as it pissed off our parents. Exactly like their music must have done to their parents.
Now all of the above are influencing me in some way or another aswell as my new love for latin/jazz rythmns which i have recently started to incorporate into my songs.
