Musical Style & Influences
The Forgotten Guitars are rooted in the spirit of American southern rock, but their sound stretches far beyond that label. Drawing heavy influence from the improvisational freedom and exploratory energy of bands like The Grateful Dead, their music is built around extended instrumental sections, dual and triple guitar interplay, and an organic, live-in-the-room feel.
Their guitar work takes inspiration from Jerry Garcia’s melodic phrasing and emotional tone, blending it with more modern blues and rock textures. Vocally and harmonically, the band leans on layered arrangements that echo the soul and storytelling found in 70s-era Americana.
On the low end, Phil Davidson’s bass playing is inspired by Phil Lesh, favouring a melodic, fluid approach over traditional root-note lines—bringing a more musical, counterpoint-based dimension to the rhythm section. With Phil planning to transition fully to guitar and keys once a new bassist is in place, the band is aiming to unlock a fuller, more expansive sound.
Improvisation is at the heart of what they do. No two jams are ever the same. Whether it's building a song from a single riff or diving deep into a 10-minute instrumental break, the band thrives on in-the-moment creation. Their goal isn't just to play music—it's to explore it, to feel it evolve live.
The Forgotten Guitars already have a solid catalogue of original material, with hours of unreleased tracks and demos. They're now actively seeking a drummer and bassist who share a love for open-ended jamming, vintage tone, and collaborative creativity. If you’re into bands like the Allman Brothers, Little Feat, or the extended grooves of Dead & Company, you’ll feel right at home.
