Hello. I want to start a band. In Newcastle.
The purpose of this band is to make some cool songs that people will enjoy hearing and that we will enjoy playing.
In other words, we will make some fun, accessible but kind of intelligent alt-rock songs that we can play in either crap little venues or maybe some better ones. And then if that works out, maybe develop some more epic stuff.
The purpose of this band is NOT to try to desperately limpet onto the grinding, chugging, choking, dying music industry or turn ourselves into grotesque self promotion machines with incestuous myspace pages and “street teams”. Nobody needs that crap. Although if we get good maybe we can reconsider that later. It is also not the purpose of this band to take ourselves ludicrously seriously or think we’re changing the world. Because we won’t. Although you’ll need to turn up to rehearsals and gigs. Else what’s the point!
I am a fairly average lead guitarist and I’m looking for some other average joes who want to join me to make some music. Virtuosos are welcome if they check their egos, but not preferred and certainly not necessary. Drummers, bassists, other guitarists, maybe a keyboardist or someone who is clever with a laptop. As long as you’ve got rhythm and can competently deal with root notes and power chords it’ll be enough for now.
