ABOUT

After decades of being a wannabe drummer, I started taking classes a year ago last April. I like lots of types of music but listen mostly to modern folk, jazz, rock/prog rock/singer songwriters. My drum teacher is a jazz drummer and I'm really getting into that although it will be a long time before I'm good. I can keep basic swing time. I can do basic blues, rock and reggae. I think I'll improve with other musicians of a similar level who want to improve as well. I went to a Jazz Academy residential course in April which I thoroughly enjoyed, especially the ensemble playing.

Influences

Well, for jazz Miles and Coltrane but I won't be able to play their stuff just yet. I've long liked Van the Man and John Martyn. For female singers, I'm a big fan of Joni Mitchell Steely Dan are a favourite for soft rock and in the area of modern folk, I've just come to know about Breaback. I also still like the prog rock I first listened to in the 70"s including Caravan and King Crimson. I also still like Mountain from the same era.

EQUIPMENT

Basic rock (ish) drum kit - bass, snare, two mounted tom toms and a floor tom tom, hi-hat, ride and crash cymbals.
