Band to Join, Drums, Other Percussion, Keyboard, Piano, Mandolin, Electronic Music.ABOUT
Hi all, I’m a professional multi-genre electric and double bassist from South Wales.
Soul, pop, jazz, theatre, blues, classic rock, progressive rock, bluegrass, country, metal - if it’s got a good groove, I’m in! (Bandmix only allows 4 genres to be ticked - I'd tick about 80% of them if it let me!)
My playing style is melodic, in the pocket and heavy on improvising given the opportunity. Plenty more videos here - https://linktr.ee/maddykmusic
I have several 4 and 5 string basses (including fretless) and a wide range of pedals if needed. I’m a confident reader, a fast learner, and I’ve got a great ear for detail.
I offer live and studio session playing and am happy to travel for projects. I also offer remote recording from my home studio.
Some recent works:
- A theatre run of 30 shows in December. A musical adaption of Pinocchio at Taunton Brewhouse, with music by Tom Johnson and an awesome cast, band and production team. Great fun as the theatre band were featured on stage as part of the story rather than the standard pit work.
- Elec bass with instrumental jazz fusion/progressive rock band Z Machine (think King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra).
- Elec and double bass with songwriter Sam Baggott. Bluegrass, country and folk.
- Elec and double bass for Restless (Viv Gordon Company), an arts activism project about community, visibility and voice for survivors of CSA. Created by Viv Gordon, a campaigner & survivor-activist grounded in her lived experience.

Influences
Where to start....
I grew up with soul, gospel and jazz and it's developed in all directions since then! Can't possibly narrow this down so here's some of the music I listen to...
Soul & funk - Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, anything with a James Jamerson or Donald Dunn bassline, Mandrill, Parliament, Vulfpeck
Classics - Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Cream, The Band, Steely Dan, The Allman Brothers Band, JJ Cale
Jazz - Esperanza Spalding, Dave Brubeck, Nina Simone, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Roy Hargrove, Gogo Penguin, Cinematic Orchestra, anything released on Ninja Tune
A big desert rock and doom fan - Electric Wizard, Kyuss, Masters of Reality, Sleep
More stuff - Dawes, Aurora, Billie Eilish, Steve Vai, Bonobo, Hans Zimmer, John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band (LOVE jam bands), Fela Kuti, Tash Sultana, Alice in Chains, Hozier, Midlake, The Raconteurs, Buena Vista Social Club.
A few more bass influences - Pino Palladino, Leland Sklar, Billy Sheehan, Ron Carter, John Patitucci, Tal Wilkenfeld.
Bonus points if I can listen to it on vinyl.
