ABOUT

I'm a musician from Kingsbridge, Devon. I spend a lot of time in Plymouth (I am studying Contemporary Film Practice at Plymouth University and most of my family are from Plymouth). I play drums, guitar and also sing a bit (I'm aiming to learn other instruments, too). Playing music is extremely important to me, in particular playing drums. When I don't have the kit in front of me, I'm playing air drums, practicing at tables with whatever is to hand (I find glass things like bottles and cups make surprisingly good bell sounds, and wood makes for a good snare) or simply thinking up new stuff I want to play. My style of drumming is very influenced by John Bonham and Dave Grohl in that I like to play powerfully. I also like the quirkiness and intricacy of players like John Dolmayan, Mitch Mitchell and Chris Adler. My playing has been influenced by many drummers, but those are probably the most influential. I've also been influenced by the random stuff my family play at home. Reggae and Latin American stuff has influenced me a bit, as well as the styles used in Electro House and Dubstep. (which I intend to start making some of once I've got the software). You'll see a full list of my influences below. I've also been singing for a while, and people tell me I'm surprisingly good with the right stuff. Mid-high range bluesy stuff is what I'm best at (White Stripes, Them Crooked Vultures, Tito and Tarantula, some Led Zeppelin, that sort of stuff). Guitar's a lot of fun too, and something I've played since before I learned drums- I can learn by listening very quickly (on any instrument) and I've learned loads of stuff pretty much note for note over the years.
Another thing that may be useful is that I've studied Media in it's various guises for about five years. I possess both the equipment and capability to create music videos, posters, photos and other promotional material.
What I'm looking for is a committed band with interesting new ideas. I don't mind playing covers, but I really do not want to wind up in a cover band. I sincerely want to make something new, something people have not seen before.
I currently only get to practice drums once a week. This hopefully will soon be remedied as I'm converting part of my garage into somewhere I can play without riot police showing up. Guitar and vocals I practice all the time. At the time of writing my practical driving test is booked two days from now, so hopefully (fingers crossed, not counting my chickens) I'll be able to drive soon.
I have been playing with a mod/punk band called The Con for about two years (Our stuff's on Soundcloud. Check it out, it's really cool..! We've been reasonably successful locally. We even went on local radio a couple of times). I'm not entirely sure what's going on with that at the moment, as we've not arranged anything (not even practices) for a long time. I'm willing to take extra time to work with another band. I'm currently working weekdays, from morning to early afternoon but my evenings are generally free whenever, as long as it's not monstrously late.
