In summer 2019, I turned 60. As a teenager, I played drums (averagely) in a band (we didn’t do any world tours!!) and my wild plan was to arrange a party to celebrate my wife and I's joint 60th birthdays and I'd play a few numbers with the band I hired

In Jan 2019, I bought a kit, started taking lessons, found a band to play at the party and fulfilled my ambition of surprising family and friends by playing along to 3 songs on stage with the band and managed to not disgrace myself.

Later that year, a traumatic event in our family meant I stepped away from any form of practise but I always had the kit set up in our garage and would play along to tunes but I definitely wasn't improving my technical skills.

A few weeks ago, I made a commitment to sign up to Drumeo and I'm enjoying that process. My skills are developing and although I'm nowhere near competent (yet) to play in a gigging band, I'm confident that I wouldn't be considered (hopefully) to be a total novice.

For 2023, it would be good to develop my drumming by playing with a few folk either recreationally or in time more seriously.

If there are any budding musicians out there in the Harrogate area, looking to get together for a few jam sessions in the new year or you just need someone to sit behind you and knock out a decent beat, it would be great to hear from you.
