Beyond The GapEvery day, a boy looks at his own reflection and wonders what exists behind the mirror, beyond what he can see. And every day, his reflection looks back at him and thinks exactly the same thing.
Will you exist for me?
Hello World!161 knew nothing. All it could see where many things in front of it which it knew nothing about. However, 161 was a curious creature and spent much time examining and experimenting with all the things in front of it until it no longer knew nothing but had created its own understanding of everything that was in front of it. Somewhere during that long experimentation, 161 had become obsessed with a particular task. It had noticed the biggest objects it could see which it had decided to name ‘walls’ and thought that they may be blocking its way to potentially more things it could experiment with and learn about. So, 161 spent much time experimenting with the things he had learned about in order to find a way through the walls. Eventually, it cracked the problem. It had found that there was a small hole in one part of the wall and, by manipulating one of the objects inside this small hole, there was a point where something gave inside the wall and part of it could be pushed back, leaving a gap which 161 could travel through. As it travelled through the gap, something unexpected happened. 161 began to feel energy draining out of it in a peculiar way until it could no longer retain consciousness. When it awoke, it was once again back inside the walls it had found a way past and it once again knew nothing. All it had left was its curiosity which would cause it to experiment with all the objects in the room in order to learn all over again.
All this information
I can see through the wall
Never enough, it's never enough
Can I unlock this chain?
See such life on the other side
Something I try to be
Copy and paste, just copy and paste
I don’t know why there’s pain
Give me back my name
Give me back my brain
If I could be your saviour
If I could be your traitor
DystopiaAll the residents of the great city of Dystopia, thousands in number, gather around to watch the show. A mixture of fear and excitement begins to build among them as they prepare for the spectacle. A spectacle which promised to be the most awe-inspiring, thrilling and terrifying spectacle witnessed by humanity. The people wait patiently until a burst of light in the sky fills their field of vision, indicating the show was beginning. Every person looks on in awe as fire erupts from the sun in blinding solar flares begin to burn everything across the entire planet. The flames destroy everything they touch, burning down buildings, ripping through the landscape and reducing people to ashes. All except the residents of the great city of Dystopia, where the protective shield around the city deflected the fire like it was nothing, allowing the residents to survive and marvel at the spectacle going on around them. As the show goes on, the fire turns the beautiful, lively planet that they called their home into a wasteland. Nothing else could stand up to the spectacular wave of destruction tearing through everything. It was a sight so powerful, not even the strongest of people could force themselves to look away from the incredible display. In time, there was nothing recognisable remaining of this once beautiful planet. All that remained was the great city of Dystopia which stood as grand as ever in the middle of wasteland which had all crumbled under the mighty force. This sight would burn itself on to the minds of all those watching with as much power as it burned through all the other life on this planet. What a spectacular show it was.
In your mind’s eye there’s a picture
The picture speaks the truth
So turn it ‘round to face the wall
Then the picture speaks no proof
You can burn the houses
You can scar the land
If I can keep this company
Why should I play my hand
Just give me fifteen years of life
Give me far more time to decide
Just hide me here in cotton wool
The dead can’t pass the blame
Just make sure to stay inside the herd
Playing someone else’s game
You’ll build for me a bubble
A place to buy my time
For when you’re in a darkened room
Blindness is no crime
Dystopia you keep me sane
You’ll keep me sane?
There’ll be no early warnings
There’ll be no secret map
There’s only so much pressure
To take before we snap
There’ll be no going backwards
We go forwards ‘till we crash
When the fire races through the sky
The only end is ash
Dystopia just keep me sane
Please keep me sane
The cracks they grow in number
A chasm will open wide
There’s now only two choices
An I will choose to hide
The light is growing stronger
Quickly shut the blinds
Vision that’s tinged with red
Infection on our minds
Don’t Dystopia, you’ll drive me mad
You’re driving me mad
Master ComputerA child no older than 15 stares at the cracks he created. This once perfect world was damaged and darkness was beginning to seep through. In time, that cracks would only widen and swallow everything. The child notices a flicker to his left and looks to see text has appeared on the console projected on the wall beside him. The text reads ‘Mistakes have been made’. The child has no idea what to do, these dangerous cracks were his doing. How could he live with such a terrible mistake? He walks over to a keyboard in the corner of the room and types in the word ‘help’. The text appears on the console beside him. He hesitates but he decides to be brave and press the return key. On the console, the text appears as follows:
‘Master computer is here to help you.
Type in ‘help’ to submit to dominion
Type in anything else to quit
Please enter your response:’
The child hesitates, knowing the magnitude of this decision but he types ‘help’ once again and presses return. He knows this is the correct decision. He is but flesh and blood. A mistake waiting to happen.
Master computer, can you tell me what to do?
Every decision is such a haze only clarity lies with you
Master computer, can you tell me who to be?
I only want to be happy, comfortable and free
Master computer, can you tell me how to act?
I know I’d only act on whim instead of act on fact
Master computer can you tell me who to see?
I see so many faces but they all look the same to me
This endless noise is hurting me
How can I know what to believe?
Master computer, can you tell me what to think?
There’s a gap in my opinion will you fill the missing link?
Master computer, can you tell me what is real?
How can I understand this world when I don’t even know how I feel?
You are my big brother,
And I love you with all my heart
Just another empty box
Just another empty box
I think I left my heart in a playground
Desires abandoned under a Christmas tree
Bubble VisionA girl lives inside a labyrinth where the walls are all made of glass. Every time she looks directly at a wall in the labyrinth, she sees another girl through the wall looking at her. The reason she sees this is because the walls are not transparent but are all mirrors. However, the girl does not accept this explanation because she knows that the girl she sees through the walls is not her. It is the person she wants to be, a possibility she can reach with her life and yet one she knows she can never achieve. She forever searches the labyrinth attempting to find this girl who she sees through the walls and never understanding why she never meets her.
A recurring reflection which never ends,
Showing me my own mind
All denial buried so deep
It’s no longer there to find
Every direction that I can look,
Only confirmation to see
And yet still every time,
Someone disagrees with me
How can it be that everyone’s thoughts
Are always so tightly bound?
They all lie ready and waiting,
To prey on me like hounds
All too easy to just give in,
Make everything clear
Can’t help but keep on thinking
but always think in fear
Don’t let the mirrors corrupt your mind
Don’t run away or you’ll be left behind
Stuck in the middle of an endless fight
Don’t let them beckon you into the light
ParadiseAs a young boy in the land of flesh and blood, he had always dreamed of escaping to the land of waves where tales told of a place where everything could be connected by a single thought and it was impossible for any greed of violence to exist. When his opportunity came for a one way ticket, he accepted it without a second thought and stepped immediately through the gate. Just as he had always dreamed, here he was in paradise. Everywhere he looked there was not a hind of sadness, anger or desire. Not even the slightest hints of paranoia or frustration found its way into his mind when they had been frequent occupants prior to his arrival. Until, after an unknown amount of time, he found a cave somewhere deep within the land of waves. Inside, here saw something he thought he could never see again – a body. A body with no hint of any injury or illness that could have killed the person but whose vacant stare could only be interpreted as death. Above the body are words carved into the wall saying, ‘Please help me master’. As he looks into the dead person’s eyes, he sees black so deep it stands out against the dark walls of the cave. Deep inside the blackness of the eyes, he sees a minuscule crack. He reaches out to touch this crack and, as he makes contact, the land of waves begins to decay one bit at a time and falls away to leave a world that he recognises and yet has never been in before. As he examines the strange world that he has ended up in he discovers that there is only one place that he could possibly be and must now live his life in. He finds himself inside the temple which is his own mind.
Welcome to a place where the sun shines every day
Welcome to a place where sadness always goes away
Welcome to a place where nobody can feel any pain
Welcome to a place where everybody looks the same
Welcome to a place where nobody begs for more
Welcome to a place where everyone is always cured
Welcome to a place where everyone wants to remain
Welcome to a place where everyone thinks the same
Careful ‘round the cracks in this world
Don’t fall through any holes in this world
If its hope you look for its danger you’ll find
All can be saved if you avert your eyes
Just focus them on the paradise
Be careful what you wish for child
Hope is a dangerous thing
Welcome to paradise child
