ABOUT

Thanks for stopping by. I'm a 48 year old bloke who used to be in all sorts of bands years ago. And I mean all sorts, from an original band doing Jam/Clash/Joy division sounding stuff, to an original band whose singer thought she was Stevie Nicks, to a club band playing electronic dance stuff etc., and that doesn't even scratch the surface of what I like in terms of musical genre.

WHAT'S MY HISTORY?
At the age of 17, I watched my singer destroy a perfectly good Les Paul junior by smashing it against a pillar in the Red House, for no reason other than "entertainment". At age 18, Alan Robson (off the radio) told me my songs were "good but needed reshaping" (lol I still have the letter somewhere). At 21 my band of the time's first official release sold over 30 copies. And at 24 I played "I Want Your Sex" by George Michael to a crowd of 300 skinheads in Ferryhill club. Rock 'n' Roll eh?

WHAT DO I DO?
I play guitar (electric and acoustic), a bit of keyboards, buy me enough drinks and I can be persuaded to do backing vocals or even the odd (poor I'm sure) karaoke lead vocal. And being a guitarist I can also of course pretend to play bass in an emergency. I write songs (my tunes are better than my lyrics) and I can record / mix / produce etc.

WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?
Absolutely anything musical. With people of any age and musical taste. From other like-minded collaborators in original song writing and recording, to gigging bands looking for a bit of a jack of all trades (mind I am not a shredder so if you want super fast "notes for the sake of notes" metal lead then I'm not your man. I like tunes.) Or maybe you just want someone who can help mix and produce your songs - I have experience of that and consider myself a proficient Pro Tools user.

As I said, I'm an "equal-opportunities" musician (lol) so whether you're band of "youngsters" looking to get famous with original songs but looking for songwriting help, or could add something quirky to your live lineup ("imagine that: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the weird old man...!"), or whether you're an older individual just looking to write and record in your spare time for fun, or anything in between. I would ideally like to have some sort of live element though if possible. I miss gigging. I'll do any genre. Except maybe the most extreme forms of metal, trad jazz, and One Direction.

WHAT DO I LIKE?
For the last who-knows-how-many years I've been writing and recording the odd original song and the odd cover. I'm into all sorts of genres, one day I'll get all Ultravox / Depeche Mode, the next day I'm channeling Pink Floyd or maybe Radiohead or U2 or ACDC or Jon Martyn, the next day I'm imitating Linkin Park (that turns out to be easier than you think). Being a geordie, of course I have to try to copy Mark Knopfler once in a while. I'm probably nearest to him and David Gilmour in my natural sound. But the list is endless honestly. And I truly enjoy it all. And thanks to my 19 year old bass player son, I also spend a lot of time listening to more "modern" (lol) stuff like Panic at the Disco, Area 11, 21 Pilots, Churches etc. etc.

WHAT ARE MY LIMITATIONS?
I work full time and it sometimes takes me out of the country for a few days. Oh and I'm left handed. But I play the guitar right handed.

WHAT EQUIPMENT ETC CAN I PROVIDE
I have all my own equipment, naturally - electric and acoustic guitars and amps etc (I think you'd class it as pro level kit mostly); plus I have a Pro Tools setup (with Logic Pro on the side) and studio condenser mics etc. The odd old synth somewhere in the loft. I also have my own transport in the form of a battered old Audi I've kept for the purpose of lugging heavy stuff.
If needed and for the right musicians I'd also be happy to invest in additional equipment e.g. PA systems, or recording time in a professional studio.

ANYHOO.... that's me. If you buy me even more drinks I can direct you to a Soundcloud site where I post my own vain burblings. Please do get in touch.

Thanks,
Iain
