ABOUT

I'm Mike and I've sang all my life, from the school choir/plays nationally in the eisteddfordd when I was younger, to such beautiful and romantic settings such as open mic nights. I really love those kind of intimite venues. Anyway recently I've performed street gigs, singing competetions and have a spot at resfest (A conference for homeless/supported living), which usually comes around every year. I love jazz, though don't have a traditional "Jazz" sound I love the do-waps and skats. Its so much harder to get your skat tight then people think, its more than just making up nonsense words.I just love performing and singing songs. I always have and I always will.

Influences

Of all the people to have the biggest effect on my sound, I think it wuld have to be Paul Weller, back when I was was in the choir they tried to tell us how to sing "properly" but I soon realised that was a bunch of nonsense. They told us you can't sound rough and melodic, but yep the man showed me you can. I love unique voices like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse and also the tuff-gong reggae stuff. Some of Pete Tosh's early work is amazing. Goes without saying I love a bit of Bob marley as well really, actually it was being introduced to Marley's work that I realised that you can write songs in your own vernacular. Proper singers such as Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and Percy Sledge. I was raised in the britpop age so I guess some of that rubbed off on me, The La's and Ocean colour scene in particular. Defanatly NOT justin bloody Beiber! Bands such as Deacon Blue, Tears for Fears and erasue, Those kind of bamds who could create a 'Tight' pop song while still being individual.
