ABOUT

Brand new Dark Fantasy Theatrical Metal Project

Looking for guitarists, bass player and vocalist (either solo vocals or also with an instrument) required!

Theatrical band to involve performing in appropriate outfits and with stage props!

Confident stage presence, professional, driven attitude and financial stability essential!

Must have own gear and transportation!

If this all sounds good, pour yourself a cuppa and read on!

Being nothing but a measly drummer, I’ve always been stuck joining other peoples bands, finding whatever bands are looking for drummers and picking the one I enjoy the most. After doing this for the past 11 years, I’ve decided to start my own project and try to find people with a similar vision.

I want to start a theatrical, dark fantasy metal band. To break that down, I’m talking about a heavy metal band that plays songs with dark fantasy lyrics, performed with stage props and appropriate outfits, performed “in character” as a group of travellers journeying between fantasy worlds, singing tales of all they have seen.

Like I said, I am but a drummer, and so am unable to write songs in preparation for this project, so I am looking for musicians who can write new material, with more of a death metal leaning, but still incorporating various different types of heavy metal. There’s no need to be constrained to one specific sub genre; variety is the spice of life, after all.

In terms of band members, I feel a standard set up of two guitars, bass and vocalist would suit best, but if either a guitarist or bass player can also do vocals, then that’s fine too, whatever works out. Due to the theatrical nature of the live performances, all members would have to be confident on stage, not standing around looking bored or intimidated, with the vocalist in particular needing good crowd interaction skills, to try and get the audience involved and on board with the atmosphere we will be trying to create. Everyone must also be happy to perform in medieval/fantasy style outfits, because if one guy is on stage in a cannibal corpse t-shirt and jeans, it would kind of spoil the whole image. The outfits would be nothing extravagant or overly complicated, but the details of these can be discussed once the project is actually underway.

Built into the on-stage image are the stage props. These will include medieval style banners or flags, and our own on-stage lights to illuminate them. If all goes well, further down the line other props could be included, such as artificial flaming torches or bonfires and smoke machines. The aim is to make the stage our own as much as possible at every show.

If you’ve made it this far, hopefully you’re interested with everything said up to here. Obviously, the live performance of songs is only part of being in a band. And after spending the last 4 years being the only member of a band actively trying to push the project further, I am looking for all members to have the drive and determination to take this project as far as possible. Over the course of my last two bands, I have played in venues all across the United Kingdom, been part of several festivals, including Bloodstock, HRH Metal, Thrashasaurus and Beermageddon. I have recorded one full length album and 3 Eps, I have organised artwork designs, CD duplication and printing, video shoots, recordings, royalty collection, t-shirt prints, digital distribution, negotiated PR campaigns and haggled with promoters over fees. I say this not to show off about me being brilliant or whatever, but to show that I am determined to do everything I can to push a project forward. However, being the only member pushing quickly starts to drag you down, so I would be looking for all members to have an active role in the behind the scenes side of things to help push the band onwards and upwards. Before we even play a gig, I would want an EP recorded, merch ready to be sold and a PR campaign hyping up our live debut.

After working with people with an amateurish approach to the running of the band, people who think they can just turn up to practice once a week and play their parts, and nothing more, I am looking for people with a passion to take it as far as it can go, with the drive, the time, and the finances to be able to deliver the best live experience, and the best overall product, possible. High quality records, high quality artwork, high quality merchandise, high quality live performance. Everything as good as it can be in every way it possibly can be.

As such, if you’re tight for cash as it is, then this isn’t the band for you. I understand that people have other financial obligations, but if some members are putting less money into the band than others, then it quickly becomes a problem. All expenditures should be split evenly between the members. This will require financial investment not only for recordings, merchandise and stage props, but for practicing at LEAST once a week, preferably twice a week. Obviously where that will take place will depend on where everyone is located. Members will also be able to drive and have their own transportation. You need to be able to get yourself and your gear where it needs to be, by yourself.

Despite how this might all read, I am not planning on running a dictatorship. A band should be a democracy, and that is how I hope this band will be run.

If all of this sounds like just the thing you’re looking for, please get in touch and we can arrange a meeting to see if we can take things further!
