ABOUT

Originally from Canterbury in Kent, Alexander was selected to be one of sixteen boy choristers at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford under the direction of Stephen Darlington. Alexander was lucky enough to travel to many different countries such as Germany, the USA, and Japan to perform at some of the world’s finest venues; working with distinguished organists and composers, including Howard Goodall and Sir John Tavener.

After leaving Christ Church in 2008, Alexander had many opportunities to perform ensemble works such as Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana in addition to solo recitals as a Scholar at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate. Alexander has been privileged to work with acclaimed countertenor Mark Deller the son of the first modern countertenor Alfred Deller, and also having the opportunity to perform with Tabitha Webb of Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables fame. Also that year Alexander had the honour to be elected into the Guild of Musicians and Singers of London where he was awarded a Licentiate. The Guild has roughly 400 members including several distinguished musicians among its Honorary Fellows.

Alexander is currently in his final year of studies under the tutelage of tenor Eamonn Mulhall, and Rianka Bouwmeester. Alexander has thrived at Trinity Laban and has developed a bright and refined countertenor voice, he has been lucky enough to work with various professionals in master classes most notably Louise Crane - one of the country’s most sought-after and versatile mezzo-sopranos.

Throughout his studies, Alexander has been part of Trinity Laban’s Chamber Choir under the direction of Stephen Jackson, where he performed works such as Dido and Aeneas by Purcell and Jephta by Carissimi in which he sang the alto solo Historicus. Alexander has also been fortunate enough to be chosen to sing solo oratorios, including Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Bach’s St. John Passion; as well as being cast in various operas such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten in which he portrayed Oberon, and Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at Blackheath Halls. More recently Alexander has work-shopped scenes from Jonathan Dove’s contemporary opera Flight playing the role of The Refugee and performed the role of the Military Governor in Judith Weir’s A Night at the Chinese Opera at Laurie Grove Studios.
