Alchemista are a Coventry-based six-piece band playing their own original songs with a smooth blend of folk, jazz and rock.
Caroline Luxton-White (lead vocals), Bobbie Lord (harmony vocals), Bob Fisher (Guitar), Paul Jayes (Piano and Guitar), Mark Nisbet (Bass) and Colin Halliwell (Drums) were magically brought together through their passion for well-crafted songs with big choruses, hooky grooves and poetic lyrics. Originally formed with a family nucleus of partners Caroline, Colin and brother Ray Halliwell, the band reached a temporary hiatus when Ray died suddenly in 2015. However, to their delight, a one-off Bandmix advert for a guitarist was answered by a full range of musicians including keyboards and bass, and a ‘bigger-and-better’ Alchemista was re-launched in October 2015.
Since then we’ve been writing, recording (for our first album due out soon) and cutting our teeth with local gigs plus a couple of festivals. We also run our own Alchemista open mic at The Standard Triumph Club, Coventry, every third Thursday of the month.
Who do we sound like? Some have said we sound a little like Fleetwood Mac. Recently we were described as a blend of Kate Bush, The Undertones and Patti Smith. We’re not trying to sound like anybody but we like all those bands so that sounds about right!

A bit folky (but not too folky) blended with a pop/rock feel. There's a touch of blues and country in there too!

Join us at a new monthly open-mic starting Thursday 19th May, at the Heart of England Social Club, Meriden from 8.30 – 11.00. Monthly open-mics will continue on the third Thursday of each month.
Anyone who wants to come along and strut their stuff will be welcome - from solo singers to full bands.
Run by folk-pop band Alchemista, the usual sort of routine will apply, e.g. sign up for a slot on arrival (usually 3 songs), Alchemista will start the evening with three songs then it’s over to you. You’ll get a quick sound check, you’ll be announced on and off, and we’ll be on-hand at all times to support you and make sure that it’s a positive experience.
Just turn up on the night, or get in touch beforehand: Phone Colin on 07815 076775 or e-mail Caroline on firstname.lastname@example.org
