ABOUT

Hi!

I am a casual bass guitarist who studied music at Durham University, and now has a 9 to 5 job.

I started playing bass when I was about 10 years old (and some piano from about 6 though I gave up), and fell in love with it then! Despite some periods of ups and downs, I have always picked up the bass even just to noodle and doodle, or learn a song I've recently listened to. At university, I ramped up my playing and played in at least 20-30 gigs (also separately I played classical double bass) in genres from Funk, Jazz, and Neo-Soul, including paid gigs with my band, or just gigs for fun with mates.

I also played in a few song recordings and studio sessions with some friends, and have been paid for one studio session before.

Since graduating, and following Covid and other various life happenings, I have basically only played 2 gigs in the last 5 years. As I go on in life, this is becoming more of a hole I want to fill, even if only casually or moderately committed, so that I can stretch that muscle and give excitement to my bass playing back again. So, though I would say I am at a level experience of 4, this might be considered 3, mainly because I felt myself to be at a good playing level, but now am a little rusty. With more dedicated practice, this will go back up to 4, I feel.

In a nutshell, I'd love to play more regularly again, and who knows, maybe go back to semi-professional gigging, and studio playing!
