From their conception in 2000 in the cotswold town of Cirencester, Crayfish have aimed to be a one-gig grunge band. They achieved this so well that all the members left leaving singer/guitarist Matt Aldis to his own sordid devices. Months past and Crayfish reformed with a new agenda. One that would ensure that they would be hailed as the worst band in the west-country.
Thankfully (though begrudgingly for Matt) this goal seemed an impossible task and eventually they bit the bullet and tried to make something of themselves.
2003: So Matt, Felix (bass) and Rupert (drums) took on the task of creating a gargantuan, behemoth-like sound, down tuned everything to destruction and recorded it under the influence of a lot of alcohol and drugs. The results were the foetal seed of a half-arsed good idea.
The introduction of J Evans on lead guitar created aspirations for something better, and though still quite begrudgingly, Matt ‘the leader’ (ha ha ha) of the band, influenced by bands such as Black Label Society, Alice In Chains, The Meat Puppets and Frank Zappa thought it was time to take the group in a weird and interesting new detuned direction.
2004 saw them play a host of venues, mostly around Swindon and Cheltenham but most notably, the TMF festival where they were supporting stage headliners Breed 77 and Winnebago Deal.
Crayfish hope that, whoever you are, you’ll find something in our music you appreciate.
Black Label Society, Alice In Chains, The Meat Puppets and Frank Zappa
