ABOUT

Hannah & The Heartbreak are a London based band originally formed by the collaboration of Hannah Bristow, lead singer and songwriter with a collection of musician friends based around her ‘living in’ warehouse in the Manor House area of north London.

Hannah became a prolific songwriter inspired by such an anarchistic, creative environment! Also in the warehouse was aspiring music producer Jack Reynolds who built his own studio. This was one of the first warehouse music studios in the community. It seemed inevitable that recording would commence. Hannah was of course given a favourable rate but paid her way with a combination of temping in offices, being the vocalist in a covers band and giving singing lessons to a host of aspiring people who came through the warehouse doors. It was also a free rehearsal space and a place to do gigs, as there were always people hanging around waiting to be entertained.

Hannah & The Heartbreak then started to play on the London circuit in venues such as The Bull & Gate, 229 Club, Upstairs at Ronnie Scotts, Floripa, The Proud Galleries to name but a few. They also ran a Saturday night residency called ‘Role Play’at The Finsbury Pub just round the corner from the warehouse scene, this was packed every time and eventually became a respected venue on the London live music circuit.

Early demos of songs such as ‘The Gate’, ‘Unstuck’ and ‘Role Play’ were sent to BBC INTRODUCING where they received airplay from Gary Crowley on BBC 6 Music, London. ’The Gate’ also got airplay on ’The demo show’ with Amazing Radio where record plugger Dylan White was on the review panel. He was so blown away by ’The Gate’ that he tracked Hannah down and offered to manage her.

By the end of 2012 there was an albums worth of material recorded!!

In 2013 producer, Jack Reynolds completed the final mixes, enlisting the help of Luke Buttery at Way Studios as he had better equipment to enhance some of the final mixes of certain tracks.

So in true DIY style. Hannah & The Heartbreak now have their debut album entitled ‘Open Heart Surgery’ a name which came to Hannah in a late night recording session. With their recent airplay on Radio 2, BBC6music with Tom Robinson and also playing a live set on BBC Radio Bristol, Hannah & The Heartbreak define folk soul at its finest.
