Spurious Transients

Vocalist, Lead Guitar, Other Percussion, Violin, Trumpet, Saxophone, Keyboard, Flute, DJ, Electronic Music, Clarinet.

OK, I'm not actively looking to play gigs. I've played too many where the amount of sheer effort, time, travel and late nights that have gone into making them happen simply has not been adequately reflected by what we actually get out of doing it with - usually - so very little return. Not to mention having to move heavy equipment around which has resulted in neck injuries, physiotherapy sessions, etc.

Having said that I wouldn't rule out the occasional live appearance under the right circumstances.

I am, however, very interested in recording, and am always on the lookout for people to work with.

Anyway, below is a biography of sorts, have a read, see what you think.

From Pembrokeshire in Wales, Spurious Transients is the long time experimental music project of Gavin Lloyd Wilson, a musical amalgam of influences from the worlds of psychedelia, krautrock, electronica, jazz, avant garde and musique concrète. More recently pieces have been inspired by such things as astronomy, Forteana, UFOs, early black and white cartoon films and 1940s/50s public information films.

The name originally referenced a recalcitrant drum machine, but is deliberately open to interpretation, e.g. random bursts of noise or the transient nature of the personnel involved (with Gavin being the only constant).

Although primarily a recording project, Spurious Transients have played a handful of live shows since 2015, albeit with varying personnel. The most recent appearance was on Saturday 3 August 2019 at Fruits De Mer Records’ The 17th Dream Of Dr Sardonicus Festival Of Psychedelia in Cardigan, Wales. Performing on this occasion as a trio, Gavin (bass, taishokoto, electronics) was joined by Gail Storr (vocals, guitar, theremin) and Andrew Lemmon (sax, clarinet). To coincide with the festival, a very limited lathe cut vinyl single recorded by the same trio - Vergesslichkeit / Remembering - was released together with a CD containing 16 bonus tracks from the archives.

There will be new Spurious Transients material appearing on a compilation LP from Fruits De Mer Records later in 2020. Two albums of brand new Spurious Transients material have also been recorded; hopefully at least one of these will be released towards the end of 2020.

I play bass, mandocello, guitar, electronics, tuned percussion, etc and I compose and record using Ableton Live 10. Outside of Spurious Transients I have been one half of instrumental duo The Spookers, have played bass for acclaimed spacerockers Sendelica and their offshoot The Sendelica Drone Band, and more recently played bass with local punk outfit Red & The Hogweeds.

If you are a local musician (or maybe not so local seeing as we could work together via the miracle of technology) and interested in making experimental music, please get in touch. Maybe we could work together.
