Based in Manchester 'Leif' produces the ideas and songs of singer/songwriter Jules. Heavily influenced 60/70's songwriting the band concentrates on producing honest emotional songs with intense passion and strong melodies. Combining styles as diverse as John Martin/Nick Drake, Neil young/Wilco, Pink Floyd and The Beatles makes for a blend of eclectic songs which are easy to relate to.
Leif's debut album 'twist of fortune' is a subtle blend of emotion and passion. Singer-song writer Jules Leif McCormick approaches the melancholic trials and tribulations of relationships with an immense honesty, balancing the good times with the anthemic character they deserve.
McCormick - "When time are good, they're really good! That's what I'm trying to get across. "No Definite Plans" is probably one of the more sombre songs on the album, at least for the first couple of minutes breaking out into a big all out rock song which can't be ignored. "
"This song, along with others, was written at a time, when I had just come out of a long relationship, hence I had "no definite plans". That kinda thing turns you upside down inside, and has helped inspire a lot of the songs that will appear on the album. In hindsight whether in bitterness or just that you can see the full situation when your out of it. If you do eventually commit everything, you stand to lose a lot. Most of all it's very easy to loose track of what's really important to you as an individual, rather than a couple. It's important to maintain that. That’s really what the songs about, maintaining your soul."
Our influences are very mixed we listen to all sorts of stuff but I have tried to produce a very British album. Even though many of the songs have been written in other parts of the world, I quite often find I'm missing the place, the people. On the whole its a great place to be - especially for music. "hope you enjoy it?"
