digital ditty #3: Didn’t I
digital ditty #3: Didn’t IWhile my laptop’s repaired, I’m challenging myself to write short tracks on iPad instead. Fewer fancy digital effects, plugins, processing or mastering—more hardware, determination, and garageband’s woeful 3-band EQ. This one’s a cover of Darondo’s Didn’t I. There’s some e-bow action, a lot of lush tape reverb, and a semi hollow bass growl I’m growing to love.

digital ditty #2: Same clothes
digital ditty #2: Same clothesWhile my laptop’s repaired, I’m challenging myself to write short tracks on iPad instead. Fewer fancy digital effects, plugins, processing or mastering—more hardware, determination, and garageband’s woeful 3-band EQ. I’ve wanted to put these two chords together for a long time, and am pretty happy with the results.

digital ditty #1: Faces
digital ditty #1: FacesWhile my laptop’s repaired, I’m challenging myself to write short tracks on iPad instead. Fewer fancy digital effects, plugins, processing or mastering—more hardware, determination, and garageband’s woeful 3-band EQ. This one is blues inspired. I don’t really know the blues by theory—these are chords and sounds I’ve strung together which evoke blues to me. This is also the first time I’ve managed to fit a hollowbody bass into a song. Sometimes having fewer tools proves helpful.

Cal Guitar Copy (garageband demo)Quick garageband demo, original guitar riff by robert, drum loop by apple. Everything else is by us.

Flats
FlatsMessing about on flatwound bass strings. Some fretted, some fretless!

Vertigo (garageband demo)
Vertigo (garageband demo)Fairly funky. Drum loop from garageband, everything else by me. It's called Vertigo because that's the film soundtrack I was planning on sampling before I got carried away.
-
Olbas (garageband demo)
Olbas (garageband demo)Very rough, experimenting with different sounds still. It's called Olbas because I was enjoying that minty goodness whilst I worked on this! 1 drum loop from garageband, everything else is by me.

Chinatown (garageband demo)
Chinatown (garageband demo)Rough garageband demo, filter in the interlude needs fixing somehow All samples are from the soundtrack to Chinatown (1974), all other instruments are by me except for some drum samples. Will most likely remove the unnecessary guitar solo at the end!
