Traded in my rather expensive PRS Tremonti Signature for a low end IBANEZ flat black outright (Hated the PRS even though it WAS my dream Guitar - Bag of Shite), no matter where I took it the intonation was shagged despite them all telling me it was fine - when I played it it just felt WRONG! My point being: it's not the guitar that makes for a great guitarist but rather the musician him/herself.
Other than that I have my Interface, Condenser Mic and my trusty Lappy all linked up to my Line 6.
BUT... I'll happily use yours, lol
Rain on me
Rain on me Genre: Acoustic
This is all me and was recorded one summers day sat on my kitchen worktop with the camera on an old Nokia smartphone then transferred to PC. I'd been mucking about with a few alternate tunings after overdosing on Michael Hedges for about a week. I struck upon this nice little melody and it seemed tragic, bitter sweet almost and so I recorded it and whacked it on the old PC and added the rain and thunder. I felt it was like walking into an old ghost town in the rain and hearing an old radio crackling in the distant ruin of what was someones house. "Pray for me" are the words echoed in the background and yes I held that note like a champ, F**k You Autotune! I saw it then blending into the intro of a song (Which is basically the same melody but in more new-metal chord form) The song is about two lovers standing on a porch who agree to split up with one another just as the world ends - either by the usual Nuke or cliche Asteroid. Maybe the melody in the ruins sparks a flashback to the events of the main song? Who wants to help me turn this into an actual thing? Listen for the Trumpets btw... they're not mine, like I said "it writes itself"
Never Genre: Acoustic
This Started life as a simple Riff with no Purpose and again got the old Nokia Smartphone treatment and then edited with the vocals added. It needs extending ever so slightly and the verses and a bridge adding maybe?
Ten Genre: Acoustic
This, like a lot of my stuff was written whilst playing my Guitar sat on my kitchen worktop, it was written for my Wife and is about a kiss - hence the "Ten" which in it's Roman numeral form is... "X"... A Kiss. Clever huh, lol. Anyway, like I said I record a lot of sessions so's I don't forget my Ideas - this was recorded using the camera on an old Nokia smartphone and with a little digital wizardry was turned into something which resembled what I had playing in my head. The song in this recording is unfinished as I was initially only jamming when these lyrics popped into my head, it has however since been finished just never recorded. When I came to edit and master the piece I added a little atmospheric synth and it sounded haunting yet powerful in it's raw simplicity. When mixing it down to MP3 however, I noticed there was some extra time on the final mix, when I listened to it I found it had written its own outro and all the synths you hear at the end are (The ghost in the machine, lol) nothing to do with me, probably to do with a reverb effect malfunctioning but never the less a beautiful ending and so it was allowed to stay. TOLD YOU: My Music Writes Itself! Amazing song and I'd love someone to record it properly with.
Victim Genre: Acoustic
This was just a little thing that popped into my head a few years back and so... yet again... out came the old Nokia Smartphone and onto the PC it went. I'd had the riff in my head for years but never put it to anything. As I sang it; it seemed to have this Coheed vibe to it so I gave the vocals a tweek and it sounded nice. It's about a person who is kept prisoner by a serial killer and the former's last attempt to reason with their captor before falling foul of their fatal plan. I gave it a nice Coheed'esque outro and popped it on Youtube. Well it was a hit, then the shit started with people commenting abuse because they felt deceived into believing it was an actual Coheed song. I only wanted to know if it was any good and all of a sudden I had comments that went from name calling and swearing to offensive comments and even racial slurs before fizzling off into the usual fighting among themselves about religion and politics, lol. I deleted it shortly after and I've never put a video on there since!
War Cries Genre: Acoustic
This was the first thing I ever recorded about 12 years ago. I was quite political and wanted to write a protest song, ideas flow out of me like water and so I have a habit of creating something amazing and forgetting it - lost some amazing ideas that way - hence I started recording my practice sessions and so this song was partially written as it was being recorded though it was later obviously cleaned and made sexy with layered harmonies as it was just me and my guitar (I jammed with myself basically) I both play all the Guitar and sing all the vocals - but one... the baby crying in the background is my daughter when she was about 9-12 months old, she had a certain tone to her whiney "I want it now" cry which - though hard to pin-point - was well worth it.
