ABOUT

My musical aspirations started when I was very young with the electric guitar which I have been playing since I was 8 years old. Over the years I have had 2 years of formal lessons, including a further 2 years at Music College when I completed my Music Diploma in 2005. This Diploma gave me an equivalent of grade 8 in electric guitar amongst also giving me confidence in performing and playing in many different musical genres. Outside of college at this time I also learned to pick up Bass Guitar and Keyboards which I can now play at an advanced level and have been teaching them freelance since 2006.

I have played in two major bands since college; Eden (2003-2005) and Curbdive (2008-present). I played lead guitar with Eden for two years and we recorded a 3 track demo which was recorded at a local professional studio. We toured across the UK mainly London and the South East, the biggest venue we played of which was at The Garage in London. We also did a music video professionally for one of our demo tracks, which was broadcast and circulated on the Horror Channel on Sky TV. I have been in my most recent band Curbdive for the last 2 years and we have just recorded our first demo which I recorded myself along with Mixing and Mastering. Being in Curbdive and being able to record the band in the studio and live has given me many opportunities to advance my skills and spend more time working on bettering myself as an engineer. At this current time I would say that my biggest strengths are in mixing and editing, with recording just behind. It is only for financial reasons that I do my own Mastering, I know that it is an entirely different field which I still have a lot to learn. For both bands I have been deeply involved in writing the material and thoroughly enjoy the composition process. I am also continuously working on my own solo material, which I play all the instruments myself along with doing all the recording and mixing.

I completed my BA (Hons) Music Production Degree in 2008, and I was involved in a number of projects which taught me how to be a better engineer. This experience culminated in many recording sessions with outside bands and I gained experience in recording Foley and scoring for films, amongst learning about new digital technologies such as Mp3's and file compression. In the 3rd year of my degree amongst it being a very difficult year, I made use of tight planning so I could meet deadlines effectively. I always made sure that I was ahead of myself just so I would avoid any mishaps that might happen last minute in the productions. Along with these schedules I also managed to get paid work as a Live Sound Engineer at a local music venue. Here I managed to work with many bands and artists of many genres, so I was always on the ball, working quickly and effectively to make sure the evenings went well. As a Live Sound Engineer I was responsible for setting up the PA, microphones, routing cables, DJ'ing, quality of sound for band and audience plus health and safety awareness.

Since completing my degree and working as a Live Sound Engineer, I have briefly worked in a local studio at Nightfly Studios. There I worked for a few months working on college band projects and I also set up the studio myself along with wiring everything together to build a functional studio. In this past few months apart from the Curbdive band recordings I have done some mixing and mastering for local bands as well as recording and mixing a Jazz trio and doing a dance remix which was played in local clubs.

My ultimate goal is to work in music as an Engineer and Technician. I'm also open and willing to learn new skills and undertake new challenges, if different to my initial goals. Music is something that ever since I can remember I have always been very passionate about and I always will be. As an Engineer/Technician seeking related work I am punctual; eager, responsible, have great communication with people, have an eye for detail, have stamina in working long days, have an open mind and always aim to learn something new.
