SMILE, It's another day.
SMILE, It's another day.Smile, It’s another day. Looking back on my life, I prepare to move on, Smiling deep down inside, think of all that I’ve done. I accept who I am, and plan what’s to come. Cos we’re never too old, sometimes too young. And it’s never too late, still time to create. It’s another day, and there’s another way. Always another day. Must be another way? The armchair is soft, so warm by the fire. We need to explore, chase our desires. The power of the sea, swirls round inside me. Overlooking the bay, I breathe the sea spray, And I’m taking the plunge. New life has begun. So smile, it’s another day. Smile you’ve found another way. Smile, always another day. Smile, there is another way? Believe that today, you will find a way To revive and energise dreams. As you open a door, your feet leave the floor, You reach places which seemed far away. We’re crossing the line, unsure what we’ll find. Leave sad regrets far behind. Reality gleams, the future we see Is in reach, new found energy. Love is an energy. Hope is an energy. Anger is an energy. Laughter is an energy. So smile, it’s another day. Smile you’ve found another way. Smile, always another day. Smile, there is another way? X24 Feb 2020
Protect, Restore, Fund.
Protect, Restore, Fund.In support of all who are concerned re global warming, climate change & the destruction of nature. Inspired by Greta Thunberg,& all young people striking for the preservation of the natural world. Also inspired by Extinction Rebellion, Friends of the earth, Greenpeace & many many naturally enlightened others. Protect, Restore & Fund. Maybe the poem, which inspired this song, Has no more worth, than the best. But with children protesting, saying policies must change, The solution, to protect, restore & fund. Mass extinction, sounds so dramatic. But temperatures rise, sea levels rise. Feel the warming, hear the warnings. Action is next, action could be now. Fossil fuels still burning, climate breaking down. We’ve seen evidence, we need action on the ground. Nature can regenerate, nature can be fed. Plant another tree, help another forrest spread. We have a natural solution. Action next, action should be now. Green is the blood of earth. Nourish the earth, Conserve it’s abundant worth. Jungles, marshes, seabeds, mangroves, swamps & reefs, Suck carbon from the air, repair, restore belief. When fossil fuels stay in the ground, the earth can rest & heal. Alternatives already here, wind & waves appeal. Stop funding the destruction of nature. Pay to plant, pay to save. What you do will count, policies will change, Protect, restore & fund. Maybe the young girl who stands so strong, Will bring change & understanding before long? @X24, words, music, keys & vocals. Many thanks to Greta for her words, Al for his sax & Gary for his drums & mixing. October 2019.
Cornish Legends. Acoustic Mix.
Cornish Legends. Acoustic Mix.We have just updated & re recorded my song "Cornish Legends" with an acoustic folk twist, to promote the Coverack Arts & Music Festival 27th July to 29th July 2019. I wrote this song a couple of years ago & now have additional musicians helping me out. Hannah, violin; Al, recorder: Guy, djembe drum; Roger, guitar; X24 vocals & piano; Gary, all the mixing. Cornish Legends This song is a true story of a local Cornish man, Who wrote & played his own tunes, to his friends & formed a band. No stadium tours or loud applause, quite happy with his songs. On the lizard, Goonhilly, on the beaches, inspiration drove him on. Manufactured music can sound empty, soulless, bland. While music made in Cornwall from the heart to weathered hand, Tells a story of lives, no glory, modesty & love, In words that people recognise, and tunes, some sweet, some rough. Me ‘ansums, me lovelies, sing this song. Me ‘ansums, me lovelies, sing our song. Picture postcard seaside towns, surfers and cream teas. Caravans block windy roads, tourists soon appeased With ice cream, pasties, nothing nasty lurking on the coasts. Just the sound of Cornish music, that’s the sound we love the most. Some have seen a large black cat prowling Bodmin Moor. Badgers have been slaughtered right outside our doors. But there is an old tale to tell, pollution, global warming. With our futures in jeopardy, Its no legend. So many signs , so many warnings. Me ‘ansums, me lovelies, sing this song. Me ‘ansums, me lovelies, sing our song. One of the Celtic nations, the flag for ”one and all”. Surfing reputation, fishing, mining stalls. Standing stones. The Celtic cross, piskies, holy wells. Landscape inspires artists. Creativity excels. The music swells. Me ‘ansums, me lovelies, sing this song. Me ‘ansums, me lovelies, sing our song. Cornish music on the beaches lingers on. Legends, independence, those Celtic tales go on. Words & music by X24 July 2019
Trust the writer
Trust the writerThe title track from my new 5 track EP, "Trust the Writer" which is released today, Monday 13th May. Its about trust, trust in the government, relationships and in ourselves. It is available on iTunes etc. Many thanks for giving it a listen x I've been waiting all my life, to tear darkness from the light, To rip beauty from the page, to pull reason from the rage. The fire is roaring wet, I remember, you forget. Spend savings never there. Take the lift, avoid those stares. Is it all right, is it all right now? Yes its all right, its all right now. Waiting in the line, dijesting all those lies, Distrusting pretty words, diverting from the herd. Thunder shakes the sun, their anger fools the gun, Headlines hide the news, such clarity obtuse. Is it all right, is it all right now? Yes its all right, its all right now. Whe storms are ferrocious, trust is broken and fades, Hope is on the horrison, such a long way away. If you think words bewilder, if you trust in those eyes. Better question the writer, and predict the surprise, What a surprise! Is it all right, is it all right now? Yes its all right, its all right now. Can you hear the love story, did you share all their pain? Will you learn from all sadness, make mistakes, take the blame. But its all right, I know its all right now. Yes its all right, its all right now. You've got to trust in me (Trust the writer), I'll show you what I see. It may be hard to believe (Trust the writer), As truth and lies deceive. Words, music, vocals & arrangements by X24. Many thanks to Gary Williams, drums and mixing, & Gavin Foster on guitars.
The Sickest Man X24 2019 Mix
The Sickest Man X24 2019 MixThe Sickest man, 2019 X24 mix. Link to video released 26th April 2019 ....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwJxuX9QAzw While the world is crumbling, falling into the sea, Food banks sprout up everywhere, one world in poverty. You took the sickest man and stuck him on a throne Watched him trick the light fantastical with everything you own. Confused? You took the sickest man And then you act surprised, you look like you’ve never been told The truth, the whole truth. Where is your god? Hopeless desperate fighting out on the streets, Endless wars encouraged by greed, envy, deceit. You took the sickest man and put him in control And let him line his pockets, don’t sink into that hole, again. You took the sickest man And then you act surprised, and you look like you’ve never been told They lie to steal your money and would kill you for your gold. When defeated people look for someone to blame, Emmanuel Goldstein and the Two minutes hate. You took the sickest man, hailed him as a god Complete with all the pageantry and spilling of blood. So wrong! You took the sickest man And then you act surprised, you look like you’ve never been told, They sell your hate for profit and they’re coming for your soul. You took the sickest man And then you act surprised. You took the sickest man Why do you act surprised? Music by Phil Gallagher, Alistair Andrew Leitch & X24. Words by Alistair Andrew Leitch & X24. Original version recorded 2013 by The Nino Gadgies. This re recorded/ updated version arranged by X24 February 2019. Keys & vocals X24. Drums & mixing by Gary Williams.
DANCE THE DANCE OF LIFE
DANCE THE DANCE OF LIFECornish Artisan, Samvado, wrote a short poem. We called it "Dance the dance of life"......... Moving among mind furniture removal men make space in your old face roomy enough now to dance On the planked floor of your empty dried sticks see fallen towers of support for the life rocketed up to kiss the longing sky with green Dance, the dance of life would dance you for no reason just to be more tree. All vocals, keys & arrangements by X24, with the help of Matt Fordyce, guitar, Guy Chalker-Howells, djembe drums, and Gary Williams, bass, drums & mixing. All recorded at Silvermere Studio, Coverack & mixed by Gary Williams in his Penzance studio. Copyright X24. December 2018.
Lost Without You - Freya Ridings- Cover.
Lost Without You - Freya Ridings- Cover. This is my cover of Freya Riding's beautiful song, Lost without you. Her recording is simply her voice and piano, no added extras. If you write a song from the heart & sing it with feeling you really don't need to be endlessly remixing to eventually create a perfect song. This recording is my voice and my Roland piano with a touch of reverb, far from perfect...…… Vocal and piano X24. Recorded at Silvermere Studio 30.10.18
MUST HAVE KNOWN
MUST HAVE KNOWNWritten with my band, " RAGA24", together, on & off for the past 40 years, we have finally written & recorded a rock song! "She must have known". The theme is secrets & shadows .... with light shadows tend to change & even disappear completely ....... "People watching at the station. Trains delayed, so many queues. Though vacant faces hide frustration, You see through me, I stare at you. I wonder if you know? Secrets' buried in life's flow The shadow, no echo? Voices murmur, I keep texting, Speakers muffled, no reply. Walking aimlessly through strangers Try to forget, try to deny. I wonder if you know? Secrets' buried in life's flow The shadow, no window? Trains are cancelled, people leaving, Shouting, pushing, selfishly. I resist my inclination To go, to block, absurdity. I wonder if you know. Of course I know you know No secrets, no shadows. To follow, to forego. Things will change, we will grow. Things must change, we must grow." RAGA24 16.9.17. Recorded and mixed at Area51 studios, Penzance by Gary Williams.
CAN'T BELIEVE (Once In A Lifetime)
CAN'T BELIEVE (Once In A Lifetime)I have adapted the song, "Can't believe (Once in a lifetime)", a song by my band RAGA24 ,to reflect my personal experience of the recent floods in Coverack, Cornwall which destroyed homes and roads. All proceeds from the song will go to support people who suffered loss from flooding. "As the raindrops hit my window, and the clouds began to form, Rain smacks down upon the roadway. And I can't believe, and I can't conceive, really don't need this deluge, Bouncing hail like ping pong balls, And I can't believe the ferocity, relentless force, shakes trees and walls. Tourists frightened in the car park, the road a river, rushing by, Trapping them and hurling boulders. And I share their fear, see, feel and hear, sound drowned by mighty torrents. Tarmac washed away. And I can't believe those waterfalls. Streams gush through shops and homes. And I can't believe, and i can't conceive, the onslaught and the damage, Possessions washed away. Nothing can hold back nature. Felt so powerless that day. New sodden carpets dripping lifelessly, thrown with matching curtains, in a skip. Homeless, disappointed tourists wondering. And we can't believe, little time to grieve. It happens once in a lifetime. And I know the road's been fixed. Nature's left its scars behind, in Coverack and deep inside. Music by Andrew Stables & X24, words & piano by X24. Mixed and recorded by Garry Williams, Penzance studio.

Share Your Beautiful Day
Share Your Beautiful DayToday, is such a beautiful day. Life is full of love, believing everything you say. One day, maybe today, I'll tell you how I feel and everything will go my way. What about the if's and doubts, What about the cries and shouts? Still so much to talk about, Today, should be a beautiful day. There's beauty all around me, beside the ugly scars. Friendly voices and laughter. Poverty, abundance, bizarre. Today is such a beautiful day. The rain is crashing down, more thunderstorms may come my way. They say, the sun is shining today. Hurricans will come with others dying in the sun. What about humanity, Principals, morality? Insanity of charity. Who'll pay, for such a beautiful day? We'll pay, another beautiful day. There's beauty all around me, inside those snuggly bars. Drunken voices and laughter. Avoiding problems not ours. Today, is such a beautiful day. Love is all around in everything you do and say. If beauty's all around why do so many look away? Is there another way to share such a beautiful day? All words and music by Chris Hutchings. (Inspired by S. McGill) 20.3.2017

Waiting.I am currently advertising for a sax, violin and guitar artists to work with me on some of my solo songs. This is my demo of "Waiting", my most recent song. "I'm waiting for ...... what am I waiting for? I'm looking for ...... what am I looking for? I'm thinking ...... sometimes listening..... I'm dreaming, sometimes seeing, always feeling. Re -examine the past, to understand present, To give hope for the future, you may block or forget But it needs to make sense. We all have good reasons To have lived how we lived, and to live how we live. I'm waiting for my feelings to change, To feel passion, commitment & love once again. Forget inexplicable actions & fears That the years have confused, sadness disappears. While thinking & dreaming, I’ll listen & see. Some people in this life, need to stay free. While waiting & seeing I’ll question & feel Learn, re-discover, & find what's concealed. Re- examine the past, to understand present, To give hope for the future, you may block or forget But it needs to make sense. We all have good reasons To have lived how we lived, and to live how we live." Music and words by X24 October 2016

Heroes (Against Pretty Pink Bottles )
Heroes (Against Pretty Pink Bottles )Inspired by the pollution on Cornish beaches, respectfully set to the music of Heroes by David Bowie. NB.Please note this is a very rough, one take demo, not meant for public sharing. Thanks. Heroes (against pretty pink bottles) "I, I wish I could swim, Through the bobbing, plastic, marine litter and tin. Find a pristine beach, free from pollution and glass. Surfers against sewage, cleaning up, a 'jaw dropping' task. Recycled litter, won't dissolve in the seas, here to last. We see dolphins ingest netting and bags, Wildlife stomachs poisoned by plastic and rags. Consider how the world sends its waste far away. Its returning, there are pretty pink bottles today. Cornish shorelines reflecting worldwide decay. We should be Heroes, not just for one day. We can be heroes, for ever and ever. Tackle pollution, for ever and ever. Doing nothing, solves nothing, it won't go away But we can beat this, for ever and ever We can be heroes, not just for one day. Music David Bowie, Lyrics Bowie & X24. 24.01.16
Bowie, our hero.
Bowie, our hero. Two days after Bowie died, 12th Jan 2016, I re recorded and slightly modified a section of his Blackstar as my tribute to him as he has been such an inspiration to me personally. "Something happened on the day he died Spirit rose a meter and stepped aside Nobody else can take his place, or gravely cry Oh you pretty things, Guys keep swinging! How many times does an angel fall? How many people lie instead of talking tall? He trod on sacred ground, he cried loud into the crowd We can be heroes, we will be heroes. Bowie the rockstar, knew how to play the game, He saw right so white, his open heart the pain. Eagles in his daydreams, diamonds in his eyes What a rockstar, who's found his blackstar. Something happened on the day he died Spirit rose a meter and stepped aside Nobody else can take his place, or bravely cry We can be heroes, we will be heroes, For ever and ever." Words and music by David Bowie. Interpretation, instruments and vocals recorded by X24. 12.1.16
Our Holy Land
Our Holy LandThe words draw their inspiration from the current migrant crisis, wars & the UK's past attempts to dominate 'poorer' countries. We need to support our "Fellow Man" to change things right now! Many thanks to Gavin Foster who created the germ of this song. "Our Holy Land Don't believe what you're told This holy land can't save your soul. We desecrated land and sea Stole all abundance there for free. Respect the Holy land. Love your fellow man. We made them pay and made them say That we, the wise could change their ways. We sold them arms and powered milk Then took away their oil and silk. Respect the Holy land. Love your fellow man. If you're the one for me, You're going to have to fight And shout to set us free. If I'm the one for you You've got to learn to trust your feelings As they change from old to new. Feel so ashamed of what we've done And are still doing while they run. Its time to turn, apologize. Admit our guilt, the greed, the lies. Respect the Holy land. Love your fellow man. If you're the one for me, You're going to have to fight And shout to set us free. If I'm the one for you You've got to learn to trust your feelings As they change from old to new. We need to share our holy land, and flowers. Help to heal their holy land, devoured." Chris Hutchings (Inspired by Gavin Foster)16.9.15.
Trust The Writer (Acoustic demo 2015)
Trust The Writer (Acoustic demo 2015)Trust the writer demo recorded in the VIP Lounge Penzance Cornwall on 17th June 2015. Its partly about human nature and partly about the presentation, distortion and interpretation of events and relationships by the media and ourselves. The observation and description of people and events can vary greatly depending on the writer. "Both truth and lies deceive". "I've been waiting all my life, to tear darkness from the light, To rip beauty from the page, to pull reason from the rage. The fire is roaring wet, I remember, you forget. Spend savings never there. Take the lift, avoid those stares. Is it all right, is it all right now? Yes its all right, its all right now. Another Moment Will Come 1st Feb 2015
Another Moment Will Come 1st Feb 2015Song written on the Oban ferry , North East Scottish Highlands. We all have our unique ideas, hopes about where life is taking us next, so now is the time to be positive and celebrate the fact that ........... "When that moment has gone, another moment will come" "Another moment will come. Im feeling very small today, I whisper when I shout. The ferry glides through dark clear waves. Passing islands still devout. What should I change, where should I go? Answers beyond. Nature inspires, rekindles desires. That moment has gone. I see mountains that are slow to change. Clouds circle them then go. Seeds fall on rocky, barren crags, some sprout, their beauty shows. How should I change, who should I trust? Answers inside. Why do I breath, what do i need? That moment will come. Out on the sea, perspective enthralls. No one can hear, see or know me at all. Deep water, hard rock, infinite sky. Timeless and priceless, nothing contrived. If that moment has gone, another moment will come. Look behind the hill, beyond the clouds. Touch the cold damp air, silent yet loud. See with your ears, love all your fears. Talk with your smile. Spirit free, earth fragile. If that moment has gone, another moment will come." Chris Hutchings 21.1.14
Is Love Insane, December 2014 mix with Schiehallion
Is Love Insane, December 2014 mix with SchiehallionSchiehallion's version of my song "Is love insane"? Gavin on guitars, William on bass, Jay on drums, Dawn on lead vocals while I do keyboards and backing vocals. This haunting & epic version was recorded in Rosyth, Fife in the autumn of 2014. Im very pleased with this interpretation. There is a video for this song ......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J8JB9YyeNg " Is Love Insane? Sometimes it's hard to show you the way I really feel. Much easier to run & hide , pretend the pain's not real. Friends tell you how it is for them , some things they say ring true. Until you bear your heart and soul , hard to see what's right for you. Who's to blame when the sun shines? Who's to blame when things aren't the same? Why cant i trust my feelings that much, as I face the truth again? Who's to blame for the good times? Who's to blame when things aren't the same? Why can't I trust my feelings that much, as I play love like a game. Is love insane? You say you need more space and time, you find it hard to trust and love. I know I want you here right now, been waiting long enough. One day, it's all too late, life moves on, you can't return. Try to let it go, look to the future, time to learn. Again. Who's to blame for the sun shine? Who's to blame when things aren't the same? Why can't I trust my feelings that much, as I face the truth again? Who's to blame for the good times? Who's to blame when things aren't the same? Why cant I trust my feelings that much, as I play love like a game? Is love insane? Chris Hutchings April 2014"
"Now Is The Hour" by Schiehallion
"Now Is The Hour" by SchiehallionSchiehallion, my band from Edinburgh and Fife have just released this song "Now is the hour". It is a soul searching, rock inspired comment on the pending Scottish Independence vote. Whether or not Scotland does become Independent, everyone now has a chance to find out more about the issues and do some soul searching of their own. That is the point of the song, to get people to think about what Scottish Independence could mean for them. Enjoy.

"The Pressure" (adaption of Lily Allen song, The Fear.)
"The Pressure" (adaption of Lily Allen song, The Fear.)This track was recorded live at Newbold House, Forres, Morayshire, 3rd Jan 2014. Its an adaption of "The Fear" by Lily Allen. "Heads filled with the need to make lots of money Possess all those gadgets, essential technology. Your clothes must be labelled superior quality Physique must be perfect, ideas a novelty. I dont know whats right and whats real any more I dont know how Im meant to feel anymore When do you think it will all become clear? Cos Im being overtaken by the fear. Dont forget about guns and the impact they're causing Think about conflict, continual warring. There's no time to talk or to love one another Conditioned to compete, to take and to smother. If you get a diet of massive consumption Its not your fault, its a natural compulsion. Reflect on yourself and the life you are yearning Enlightenment comes when the teacher starts learning. CH/Lily Dec 2013"
Mirror Mirror on the Wall
Mirror Mirror on the WallDemo recorded by K8 in 2010. "Mirror mirror on the wall, whos the fairest of them all? Look in the mirror, join the queue. The answer stares straight back at you. Reflects the thoughts you hold inside, detects the love you hide, sometimes. Climb the mountain, drift away. New thoughts replace the worn and staid. Its fine to leave the past behind. You'll find its time to live, unwind. Open the window, close the door, turn on the light, even the score. Does it matter any more? If you'd shouted louder, looked the right way, would things have been different, its not what you say They believe the written word, absurd. The mirror looks at you. Searches beyond your eyes Sees what pure love denies. Don't walk away but stand your ground. Discolored skin and veins. Is everyone the same? Is everyone to blame? Don't walk away but stand your ground. Mirror mirror on the wall, who the fairest of the all?" Words and music by Chris Hutchings 2007
