ABOUT

Experienced bassist and occasional composer, I’m looking to start something a little different from the current ‘generic indie’ sound that everyone seems to be fawning over these days. As Hunter Thompson once said, “When the going gets weird, the weird go pro” and I’d like to think that’s my motto as far as music is concerned. I’d prefer to gather individual musicians from different places and backgrounds rather than try and crowbar my vision into an established group but if you need a bassist and think you know what I’m about then there’s no harm in asking.

It would be nice if I could find some additional sounds over the standard Bass/Drums/Guitar/Vocals so whatever you play from tuba to triangle, if you think you can think and play a little outside the box drop me a message!

Oh, and in a way it doesn’t really matter how good you are - I’ve seen some virtuoso players (I’m looking at you, lead guitarists!) who could play the nuts off a rhino as far as technique goes, but have all the imagination and style of a dead horse, and imagination is the key factor here.

Influences

I don’t really like listing influences, but if you want a kind of general idea of what I’m looking for think of -

Tom Waits, Les Claypool, Buckethead, The Bad Plus, Rush, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Residents, Philip Glass, Cake, G. Love & Special Sauce, Bootsy Collins and Charles Mingus

- Thrown into a blender and poured out the other side in a crazy rainbow milkshake. Drink with one of those novelty spiral straws that have a plastic Disney character clinging to them.

EQUIPMENT

Fretless Squier Jazz (In all seriousness one of the best basses I've ever played)
Trace Elliot T-Bass
Rosewood Fretless unknown make.
