About
I began to learn to play the piano when I was 6 (so I ought to have got the hang of it by now) and continued studying formally until the age of 18 when I began to study composition. Initially trained in classical music, also developed a taste for the contemporary, particularly rock, blues and the like.
I have played for various bands over the years and in all sorts of venues from pubs to theatres, bars to ballrooms and even in cathedrals; indoors and outdoors (but not yet at sea).
My style is a mixture, basically rocky but with some blues and jazzy/funky influences, with having had so much varied experience and a good education, I am very versatile. I know how to get the best out of my instrument and will schmoltz with the best or just bash it, whatever suits. My style is lyrical but assertive.
Whilst brash rock gigs with a loud band are good fun (and this can be arranged if required), my preference is for rendering quality songs simply. I prefer not to use backing tracks (although I do sometimes use a drum machine) because it allows flexibility and spontaneity while (I hope) making the music more interesting for the listener because it's not simply a facsimile of the record !
Piano is my first and main instrument accompanied by my own vocals but also play various other keys such as organs and synths depending on the need. My skill is in piano and I love to play and to sing. I am constantly encouraged by the good response I get wherever I go and get most of my engagements through recommendation or by being booked during a gig.
There's nothing like the real thing and when I get the chance, I love to have my hands all over a grand piano; so if you have one, and you need someone to play it, please call me.
Otherwise, I play a Yamaha digital piano (feels and sounds fantastic but also goes in the back of my car), I also use a Yamaha and Roland synths.
I am fully equipped with a PA system that scales up to over 4000W, so more than enough for most venues. I can complement this with a lightshow to add to the party atmosphere when necessary.
