ABOUT

I used to play Hammond semi-professionally in London in the 80's and dabbled with rhythm guitar. I am keen to pick up folk guitar skills as a serious hobbyist and hope to find a teacher somewhere near Kirkcudbright.

Influences

Raised a punk rocker (Slits, Xray Specs, PilL, Pistols) with a love for reggae (earliest days of mento/ska through to around 1990). Played my first gig supporting the Prisoners at the Garage club (basement bar, Clarendon Hotel Hammersmith) Keyboard inspirations Jamie Taylor & Dave Greenfield. Guitar tastes: anything of quality which is stadium and hairdryer free (Joey Santiago, Viv Albertine, Michael Karoli). Also like a bit of British whimsy (Barret, Caravan, Gryphon, Incredible string band, Pentangle) These days , mostly Beethoven & Haydn sonatas, a hint of Jazz (mostly Monk, Django) and the full gamut of ex-pentanglers and associates. Favourite albums: Village Green Preservation Society; Modern Lovers; Cut; Forever Changes; Scratch Came, Scratch Saw, Scratch Conquered; Pod; Ceelbrate the Bullet; The Sunset Tree.
