Hi there, I'm a singer (and guitarist) looking for a bunch of like-minded musicians to jam with and rehearse some of my material with a view to forming some kind of band thing down the line...
In my own music I'm interested in doing something very melodic - akin to the old-style pop, jazz, blues and french chanson (jacques brel, piaf etc) melodies of the 1930s 40s 50s, but with a strong sense of momentum, fluid rhythms and occasionally a darker tone, as my words lean towards a laconic, albeit quite melodramatic style. I am aspiring to try to do something original with my voice, stretching it whilst keeping restraint giving out a big presence. People who have complimented me compared with Piaf, Buckley, Nina Simone, Dylan. Those who were disparaging I won't cite here!
But for this stage of getting people together, I'm really just looking for a bunch of open-minded, quite experienced and enthusiastic musicians from any kind of rock, jazz, blues, classical, folk or pop background, and preferably youngish (I'm 22), who are up for getting together and jamming in various different styles and eventually maybe working on some material - mine or anyone else's! Personally, I'm most into music that brings together original, but not over-complicated harmonies, trying to create strong moods, with an energy about it but a sense of style too.
Percussion, guitars, keyboards, strings, woodwind, brass - any instrumentalists welcome to drop me a message!
I live in Hackney, so if you're around East or North London that would be absolutely ideal. If you want to hear something of my music, I have some very rough demo recordings I can send out. I'm hoping to build up a really distinctive sound to the music through seeking out a diverse breed of musicos amidst the melting pot of modern London however!

Artists and singers in particular: Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Todd Rundgren, Otis Redding, Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn, Jeff Buckley, The Faces, Little Richard, Blind Willie McTell, Otis Rush, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Nina Simone, Bill Withers, Cat Stevens, Sam Cooke, Leonard Cohen etc. I listen to a pretty wide range of stuff in general: from folk, blues and jazz to rock, pop, to african, south-american and eastern sounds, and a bit of classical too.
