Handset Bongo are a songwriting duo from North Wirral who have been writing and recording songs together since the middle of 2007.

It’s a bit tricky to define our style - some of the songs are pretty funky in a quirky sort of way, some are more moody, piano driven numbers and some of them don’t really fit in with either of those descriptions - hopefully the four that we have chosen to put on here give a fairly good representation of what we are about. (Note - in order to fit four songs on here we had to trim them down and convert them to mp3, so there is obviously some loss in recording quality).

We currently have 10 songs recorded, with a couple more in the pipeline, and are now looking to move things forward by getting out and doing some gigs around the Merseyside area. In order to do that we need some other musicians…

Our priority is to find a guitarist who can naturally fit in with our sound and play the songs fairly accurately in relation to the recorded versions. There is obviously some flexibility about this - we aren’t looking for someone to play everything ‘note for note’, however we have spent a lot of time writing, arranging and recording the songs and would like to keep things reasonably faithful to the original versions where possible.

The most important thing is playing style - we need someone with the right feel and attitude to do justice to the songs. The guitar parts aren’t particularly technical, and in some of the songs the guitar is fairly sparse, merely adding a bit of texture here and there, so we need someone who is happy to lay back on quite a few of the numbers. Also, we aren’t looking to involve anyone else in the writing process at the moment.

Other more general requirement are…

Location - fairly close to Wallasey/Birkenhead, for practical reasons.
Age - mid 20s to early 40s.

Other than that, reliability, enthusiasm and a sense of humour are essential. Some previous live experience would also be useful although is not absolutely necessary. If you are interested and think you’re what we’re looking for, get in touch!
