Guv'Nor rose from the ashes of a local North East band the Defendants, formed in 1999, However, it wasn't until the summer of 2002 when Guv'Nor mark II was formed with ex Defendants, Zammo, who came in on Bass and Big Al Watts, ex Citizen Kane, who took over the lead duties; that the distinctive Guv'Nor sound was born: The line up was -
Stu Armstrong - Vocals
Zammo Robinson - bass
Big Al Watts - lead
Porky Stephenson - Drums
This line up first gigged at the Bear Tavern, Bearwood, Birmingham in December 2002. In the summer of 2003 Guv'Nor recorded the "Paradise Road" album at Handshake Studios in Darlington. Winter 2004, It was decided to add a second guitar to the line up and founder member Kev Fitzpatrick returned. (GuvNor Mark III). Winter 2005, Zammo switches to second guitar after Kev's departure, and Colin Gash takes over bass.......(GuvNor Mark IV). And so to 2007 - Colin leaves the band, Big Al switches to bass and Steve Meredith, ex Moondogs joins on lead guitar (GuvNor Mark V).
It's all fun in the GuvNor camp, the band are just putting the finishing touches to their next cd "Judas", which will be released on Feb 18th 2008 on Weedspell Records in the UK, there's no planned release for the US at this time. However, the cd will be available on-line to anyone anywhere.
Just about everything that can be GuvNor'd.
