ABOUT
Hey, we are the Half Thefts, a new band from Birmingham, relocating to Southhampton. I am Andriët (Andy for those who prefer to not try to pronounce that), I play a variety of weird string instruments, including the balalaika, banjo, mandolin, chromoharp, zither, dulcimer, hawaiïan guitar, and quite a few African instruments. I also play the harmonica, flute, ocarina, and also some guitar and piano, though not as fluidly as I play the others. Despite my relatively young age of 19, I've written over 700 songs, many of which when I was vocalist and songwriter for Pariah Boulevard, a firmly indie band that stuck together and did reasonably well for four years, despite our bassist absconding to Portugal and being described as 'like Dylan on oestrogen.' Now, I'm joined in this new venture by my best friend, Steven Fletcher, on drums, with some of our mutual friends as unconfirmed members, but we want far more than a two- or even four-man band.
We have hugely varied musical tastes, and we want to be the biggest band around; literally, not figuratively. We're searching for dozens of musicians of different influences to improvise, jam with us, and record an album during early 2006. We will probably be touring after the album, but your level of commitment to the band can vary, as long as you're committed to the recording. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, whether you're into reggae or rock, folk or flamenco, there is a place for you: we want you to contribute into building a new, vibrant sound. Our idea is that there can never be enough input, or enough ideas. If you're interested of getting away from the old-style, where one person kills invention by telling everyone else exactly what to do, and interested in creating unique, spontaneous music, then please contact us.
