DAMIAN MAGUIRE (DW DRUM KIT) (BA HONS PERFORMING MUSIC AND BUSINESS UNDERGRADUATE) Age 27, and now working in the Glasgow area with bands including, THE DISCORD. Specialist in Jazz and Folk music. With over 10 years of experience in professional Jazz/Function performing and teaching.

Started career as drummer in Bournemouth bands including UNCLE FESTER, MOSTLY WATER, and Jazz drummer for local artists including KAREN KARIAN and JOE LIMBURN (Young Musician of the Year). Studied on BTEC POP MUSIC Diploma, BOURNEMOUTH COLLEGE (1995-1997) Performances between 1995 and 1997 include, HMS PRESIDENT, LONDON, BOSCOMBE COMMUNITY FAIR, POOLE ARTS CENTRE, NATIONAL MUSIC DAY, POOLE.

Then went on to perform as full time drummer on THOMPSON CRUISE (EMERALD), CARIBBEAN (2000) Since went to study at performing music colleges, NEWCASTLE COLLEGE and DARTINGTON COLLEGE OF ARTS, DEVON. Between 2000-2003, performed several gigs and recorded with bands such as PURPLE HEADS (PAUL OWEN), VONTRAMPS (KIERON MAGUIRE) and SEA MONKEYS, (Including performance at BOURNEMOUTH PIER APPROACH). Has also gained 8 months teaching experience with CODA MUSIC FIDDLE ORCHESTRA.

Is currently performing with Folk, Rock and Jazz groups including, THE DISCORD, FURORY and LIGHT BRIGADE (GILL THOMAS). Is also doing voluntary publicity for local community arts organizations including, NRFG, EEIB and ST CLEMENTS MUSIC (JACK MAGUIRE). Is working on developing record label, MAGIC CLOUD for producing and selling products including, HISTORY/JAZZ BOOKS and BLACK SNOW ALBUMS. Composed/Produced using his second instrumens including, PIANO, BASS, VOCALS nad VIOLIN. Influenced by artists from his past including OZRIC TENTACLES, ALEXANDER O NEIL and Contemporary music such as STEVE REICH.

Influences:

‘I was influenced from childhood by a range of artists from the 60's (Such as, Pink Floyd) right through to the 90's (Such as, Chemical Brothers). My drumming has developed through the study of Jazz/Latin techniques such as, Poly-rhythms, Experimental Time Signatures, and, Salsa Rhythms.

‘I began composing at the age of 13, and was influenced at first by the 60's and 80's bands (Such as The Police). I then went on to study on a BTEC Pop Music, for which I was using Cubase, (Music software), to write experimental Dance/Funk music (Influenced by experimental artists such as the Aphex Twins and the Ozric Tentacles) which I would also transcribe and rehearse with other musicians.’

‘I later studied Jazz/Contemporary music at university and incorporated such ideas about harmony/instrumentation into my piano compositions. (My first Classical piece, which I did for a college project – Influenced by contemporary/Romantic composers such as, John Cage and Stravinsky.)

‘I have recently been developing on my Jazz/Funk compositions to orchestrate them for Strings and other instruments such as the Vibes, Harp, and Sax. (These scores are now available).’

‘On top of this I have been working on developing my teaching organisation, Music Enterprise, and writing/publishing my music books (Including those that I have done as part of my degree).’
