ABOUT

"An electro pop act that is deeper than most" - Gay Times

Christianoshi is being hailed as a contemporary model of cherished electronic acts such as Depeche Mode, Erasure, Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys for his lyrically-sharp, melody-focused songwriting and underground production sensibilities.

Following discussions to join NME darlings Fat White Family on the label roster of Trashmouth Records in 2012, Christianoshi instead signed only to its publishing division and set up his own imprint Bad Boyfriend Entertainment, through which he has self-released music with productions credited to the likes of Anthony Chapman, who produced Klaxons’ debut EP.

Since launching with a live PA at east London club night SOS, upon a catwalk traditionally inhabited by vogue ball culture enthusiasts, he has maintained this habit of belonging in atypical settings by appearing as the only pop act on many a gig line-up and DJing in Sheffield’s only froyo shop for the city’s Tramlines Festival in summer 2014.

Christianoshi’s debut single ‘Trust’ was played on BBC Radio 6 Music and its accompanying contentious video caught the attention of global gay press outlets including Instinct Magazine, So So Gay, Manner Magazin and DNA Magazine Australia. The follow-up single ‘Fake Blood’ contained remixes by Ali Jamieson, whose work appeared in several blogs’ 2014 end-of-year polls, and ubiquitous New York DJ/producer Zeke Thomas.

Both songs were promoted stateside as the Welsh artist took his live set to New York and San Francisco in October 2014, successfully recruiting backup dancers (and new followers) along his adventuring. In London, live shows have taken place at establishments as diverse as Royal Vauxhall Tavern, The Hospital Club and East Bloc.

As well as obtaining a healthy amount of YouTube views for ‘Trust’, his music has soundtracked an even more popular video thanks to the involvement of its stars. Entitled ‘Faces of Ibiza’, the clip’s many participants’ social media sharing helped boost current total viewing figures to 135,000.

“As someone with a clear vision of my goals, I do like to be in the driver’s seat,” explains Christianoshi. “But collaboration is key.”

This resourcefulness includes enlisting the help of fashion photographer friends Leigh Keily, whose recent Prince William portraits covered Attitude magazine, Amarpaul Kalirai, whose credits include Tori Amos’ Unrepentant Geraldines album, and designer-turned-photographer Afshin Feiz, whose images have all complemented Christianoshi’s self-designed artworks.

His 2015 has begun with a remix EP release (‘Four To The Floor’) as he puts the finishing touches to a fresh batch of songs that showcase a new artistic confidence and more soulful vocal following a year’s worth of training with coach Michael Harper.

“I can’t wait for people to connect with my new material”, he says excitedly.
