Batala Portsmouth is a Samba Reggae band that was founded in 2001 by Paulo Garcia a Brasilian IT student at Portsmouth University and are part of the MundoBatala Project run by Giba Goncalves. In the ensuing years they have played all over the south of England and also regularly join with other Batalas to play major events such as the Notting Hill Carnival, the French Fete de Musique and the Salvador Carnaval (the biggest and certainly the noisiest Carnival in the world) in Brasil.

We are always interested in recruiting new members and although experience is helpful, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn is the most important thing.
