Influences

Adam originally stared out learning keys at 10. This was very valuable in his music theory background and gave him an ability to read music. Joining his first band when he was 14 it soon became apparent that the band wanted to be a rock outfit and it needed a Bass Player. From the start Adam found the bass quite an easy instrument to punch ot a steady simple bass line. Being into Iron Maiden at the time he was fascinated by how their bass player Steve Harris made the band sound. This is what fuelled his desire to not be a traditional bass player but instead play bass in a manner that gave a band itâ??s colour. Spending hourâ??s locked away learning Iron Maiden numbers by ear he then got together with a fantastic guitarist called Dan Gorman. Although coming from a rock outfit his interest in bass then developed further and he realised the wealth of fantastic players that existed. From Steve Harris he became fixated with Mark Kings style from Level 42. Although Marks style was mostly â??slapâ?? based, his percussive style really drove Level 42. This was very similar with Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Although not a slap happy bass player today Adams style is focused on groove and percussion and both Mark King and Flea taught him the importance of locking in with the drummer.
